Vaessen Pioniers vs. Curaçao Neptunus
Neptunus was limited to only two basehits in the first five innings by Lars Huijer, while Pioniers took an 1-0 lead in the fourth at bat.
But from the sixth inning on, Neptunus turned the game its way.
The Rotterdam-squad first came alongside, then added three runs to win 4-1.
Pioniers got two runners in scoring position in the first inning off of Diegomar Markwell, but then failed to score.
With one out, Zerzinho Croes and Mervin Gario singled, advanced on a grounder, but were left behind.
Pioniers then opened the score in the fourth at bat.
With one out, Kevin Dirksen reached on an error, then scored on a following double by Brian Raap, who himself was eliminated in a rundown between second and third base.
In the next three innings, Markwell alos only two more batters to reach base.
In the sixth, Zerzinho Croes led off with a single, but stranded on third base.
And in the seventh, Glenn Bakker singled with one out, but was picked off by the lefthander on first base.
For Neptunus, Dashenko Ricardo reached on an error with two outs in the second, then Rien Vernooij singled, but they stranded.
In the third inning, the Pioniers-defense turned a double play, then Huijer retired the side in the fourth.
In the top of the sixth inning, Neptunus came alongside.
Dwayne Kemp led off with a single, moved to third base on a single by Benjamin Dille, then scored on a sacrifice fly by Raily Legito.
Hereafter, Dille was forced out ona grounder by Gianison Boekhoudt and Christian Diaz doubled, but they were left and second and third base.
Neptunus took a 2-1 lead in the seventh.
Rien Vernooij led off with a single, moved on a wild pitch and a sac-bunt by Shaldimar Daantji, then scored on a single by Daniel Fernandes, who last season played for Pioniers.
Another run was added in the eighth.
With Benjamin Dille (error) on first base, Maickel Rietel took over the pitching for Huijer.
Dille was caught stealing and a strikeout followed, but Rietel walked Gianison Boekhoudt, who moved on a wild pitch and scored on the second double in the game by Christian Diaz.
Neptunus added its fourth run in the ninth when Rien Vernooij led off with a homerun.
With one out, Daniel Fernandes walked, then Jonah Van Bemmelen became the new pitcher for Pioniers.
He began with a wild pitch, then gave up a 2-out single to Benjamin Dille, but that also led to the third out, as Fernandes was eliminated at the plate trying to score.
Former Pioniers-closer Bayron Cornelisse took over for Markwell in the eighth.
With one out, he gave up a single to Mark Smit.
Moments later, Smit took off from first base and already neared second base when Cornelisse stepped off and eliminated the runner.
Kevin Kelly retired the side for Neptunus in the ninth to earn his third save of the season.
