HCAW vs. HCAW Rookies
The game was purely intended to keep the players in a playing rhythm in between the first and second half of the season.
With that, eight pitchers were used in the main squad, while six threw for the Rookies.
HCAw opened the score with two runs in the first inning off of starter Moreno Vork.
Raoell Kortstam led off with a double, moved on a single by Levine Gabriëls, then was awarded home plate when a balk was called.
Gabriëls later scored on an error, but the Rookies ended the at bat with a double play.
A 4-run rally followed in the third inning off of new pitcher Jasper Elfrink.
Boyd Tuhumury led off with a single and scored when Raoell Kortstam doubled (again) with one out.
Hereafter, Levine Gabriëls walked.
With two outs, Rossini Frolijk delivered a 2-run double and later scored himself on a single by Kevin Nieveld.
HCAW-starter Sander Helmendach pitched two scoreless innings, then Kaj Timmermans gave up an unearned run in the third when Joost Köster scored on a passed ball.
The Rookies scored their next run in the fourth.
With one out, Dalvin Kortstam walked, advanced on a wild pitch and an infield-hit by Bram Selderijk, then scored on a force play-grounder by Arthur Lugtmeyer.
HCAW lifted the lead to 7-2 in the fifth inning when Roelie Henrique led off with a single and scored on an one-out single by Levine Gabriëls.
The Rookies narrowed the deficit to 7-5 by scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
With one out, Arthur Lughtmeyer walked and Marco Flinterman doubled.
A grounder by Thomas Karst then brought in the first run.
The next run was added when an outfield-error followed a single by Milo Botman.
The latter scored himself on a following single by Dylan Koster.
In the remainder of the 10-inning game, the HCAW-pitching held the Rookies scoreless.
The main squad added a run in the eighth and tenth inning.
Pjotr van der Burg held HCAW scoreless in the sixth inning, as did Sean Wout in the seventh.
The latter is the younger brother of former big league (and HCAW/Netherlands Team) pitcher Danny Wout.
In his lone inning on the mound, he was supported with a double play.
In the eighth, Rossini Frolijk doubled with two outs, which led to an out at the plate when Levine Gabriëls (who had led off with a walk) tried to score.
Frolijk later scored on a wild pitch.
In the tenth, Raoell Kortstam (fielder's choice) scored the ninth run for HCAW on a sacrifice fly by Rossini Frolijk.
Kevin Nieveld, who started the game as leftfielder and then played four innings as first baseman, closed the game for HCAW with an one-two-three tenth inning.
