Nederlands
AMSTERDAM (Neth.) -
L&D Amsterdam Pirates shutout HCAW 4-0 on Tuesday-evening (July 5) in the second of two make-up games the teams played against each other.
Amsterdam won the first one 4-2 on Monday-evening.
With the win, Amsterdam moved closer to league-leader Curaçao Neptunus in the Overall Standings, as the team is only three points behind.
The winner of the Overall Standings qualifies for participation in next years European Champions Cup.
Last month, Amsterdam won the Cup in Italy.
Tonight's game was the original opener of the series, but it rained out on Thursday-evening.
The game was re-scheduled for the next day, but then had to be scrubbed again due to the weather condition.
Finally, it could be played tonight.
Rookie Hidde Brocken had another fine outing in his second big league-appearance.
He gave up seven basehits, but held HCAW scoreless in six-plus innings, striking out five batters to earn his second win.
Pirates broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning, scoring two runs on a single by Koen Nooij and a double by Nick Urbanus.
Both teams collected eight basehits.
