Pioniers nips Neptunus to win series
Nederlands
ROTTERDAM (Neth.) -
Vaessen Pioniers broke an 1-1 tie in the top of the eighth inning on Thursday-evening (July 5) by scoring three runs, then gave up two, but hold onto a minimal lead to win 4-3 against Curaçao Neptunus.
With this win, Pioniers won the 3-game series against the league-leader 2-1.
Pioniers won 11-3 on Saturday, then lost 9-6 on Sunday.
Tonight's game was the original opener of the series, but it rained out on Thursday-evening.
The game was re-scheduled for the next day, but then was cancelled again due to the weather condition shortly before it was about to start.
But tonight, it could be played.
With two outs in the eighth and runners on first and second base, Loek van Mil took over the pitching for Neptunus.
He got the bases loaded by hitting a batter, then uncorked two runscoring wild pitches and gave up an RBI-single to Brian Raap, which made it 4-1 in favor of Pioniers.
Neptunus answered with two runs in its eighth at bat on four basehits, but also stranded two runners.
Neptunus then also left two runners behind in the ninth to be left empty-handed.
Neptunus made three defensive errors tonight.
With that, the Rotterdam-squad committed nine errors in the 3-game series against Pioniers and now has made 16 errors in its last ten games.
