Stijn van der Meer transfers to new team

KISSIMMEE, Florida / GREENEVILLE, Tennessee (USA) -
Dutch short stop and Netherlands Team-player Stijn van der Meer has been transfered to a new team within the organizartion of the Houston Astros.
On Thursday (August 4), he was assigned to the Greeneville Astros, another team at the Rookie League-level.
Greeneville Astros plays in the Appalachian League and won the championship-title last season.

Van der Meer started his professional career with the GCL Astros in the Gulf Coast League (Rookie League).
There, he made his professional debut on Monday (August 1), hitting a basehit in his fist at bat.
Van der Meer batted 1-for-3 in the game, then was 3-for-3 the next day in the second game of a double-header against the GCL Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals).
The Astros had a day off on Wednesday, then Van der Meer was transfered to his new team on Thursday.
Greeneville Astros played on Thursday-evening, but Van der Meer didn't play in that game yet.
The Astros won the game against Bristol Pirates (Pittsburgh Pirates) with a 4-2 score.
While the team is named after the city of Greeneville (Tennessee), it actually plays its home games at nearby Tusculum.
The Hitting Coach at Greeneville is Cesar Cedeno, a club-icon within the Astros-organization, who has played several years as an outfielder for the club at the Major League-level.
Greeneville Astros is currently is first place in the West Division of the Appalachian League, which is located in the Appalachian region with teams playing in the States of Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia and Tennessee.
Stijn van der Meer was drafted in the 34th round by the Astros on June 11 during the annual Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.
He signed with the Astros on June 23, then joined the club at the end of July.
