Yntema No-Hits Pioniers; Van Mil back in Rotterdam
Nederlands

HOOFDDORP (Neth.) - Orlando Yntema threw a 7-inning No-Hitter and Curaçao Neptunus recorded an 11-0 shutout-victory on Saturday (May 7) against Vaessen Pioniers.

This was Yntema's second career No-Hitter. He threw a 9-inning No-Hitter last year on July 28 against UVV. Earlier in the 2015 season, he was one of three pitchers that threw a 'combined No-Hitter'. This was the ninth No-Hitter for Neptunus (which extended its record) and 46th overall in the Dutch big league, since the first one was registered in 1948.

Former professional pitcher Loek van Mil was back in uniform for the first time with Neptunus today. The righthander started the season in Triple-A with the Minnesota Twins, threw in five games, but was released on April 25. He now has rejoined Neptunus, where he also pitched last season after coming back from a professional adventure in Japan in 2014. Van Mil left Neptunus in September after signing a new contract with the Twins, then pitched in three games in Triple-A and came back again to the Netherlands. He then played again for Neptunus in the postseason.

Today, Neptunus led only 2-0 after four innings, but then rallied for seven runs in the fifth en route to the mercy-rule victory. All runs in the fifth were scored on homeruns. Dashenko Ricardo hit a 3-run homerun and later Daniel Fernandes (3-run) and Dwayne Kemp (solo) hit back-to-back homeruns.

Neptunus collected 15 basehits, including five by Dashenko Ricardo, who was 5-for-5, scored two runs and batted in four.

Vaessen Pioniers vs. Curaçao Neptunus
Orlando Yntema needed 86 pitches to complete his 7-inning No-Hitter. The righthander struckout five batters, walked three and allowed only one runner of Pioniers to get into scoring position. In the first inning, Pioniers got its lead-off hitter on base when Mark Smit reached on an error, but he was caught stealing. In the second at bat, Yntema walked lead-off hitter Kevin Dirksen, then also walked Brian Raap with one out. With that, Dirksen became the lone Hoofddorp-runner to get into scoring postion.

From the fourth inning on, Yntema retired the last 12 batters he faced. The righthander was supported with two fine defensive plays. In the first inning, first baseman Gianison Boekhoudt made a nice diving stop on a hard grounder by Zerzinho Croes to eliminate him. And in the seventh inning, centerfielder Shaldimar Daantji kept the No-Hitter intact with a running catch on a fly by Brian Raap that ended the game.

Neptunus opened the score in the second inning off of Chris Pfau. The lefthander walked lead-off hitter Gianison Boekhoudt, then gave up a double to Dashenko Ricardo. After Christian Diaz lined out, Rien Vernooij was walked intentionally to set up a force play. A force out at the plate indeed followed on a grounder by Shaldimar Daantji, but then Daniel Fernandes walked to bring in the run. Another force out followed and so, three runners were left behind.

The second run was added in the third. With two outs, Neptunus scored another run on a basesloaded walk, this time for Rien Vernooij. But again, the Rotterdam-squad left three runners behind.

Neptunus then decided the game with a 7-run rally, using the long ball. Raily Legito and Gianison Boekhoudt led off with singles, then Dashenko Ricardo followed with a 3-run homerun. That led to a pitching change, as Jonatan Isenia took over. He gave up a single to Christian Diaz, then walked Shaldimar Daantji with one out and that was followed by a 3-run homerun by Daniel Fernandes and a solo-homerun by Dwayne Kemp.

In the seventh inning, Neptunus got the bases loaded with one out when Dwayne Kemp, Benjamin Dille and Raily Legito all singled. Hereafter, Jonah Van Bemmelen took over the pitching, but he walked Gianison Boekhoudt and gave up a single to Dashenko Ricardo that brought in two more runs and lifted the lead to 11-0. Two flyouts followed and so, Neptunus again left three runners behind.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Orlando Yntema retired the side for the fourth consecutive inning. The game then ended with the running catch by Shaldimar Daantji to secure Yntema's No-Hitter.
