Draci Brno vs. Munich-Haar Disciples
Brno-starter Martin Schneider retired the side in both the first and second inning, but then saw the Disciples open the score in the third at bat.
Lead-off hitter Ruben Manriquez reached on an error, then moved on a grounder and a single by Richard Klijn.
Manriquez then scored on a sacrifice bunt/squeeze by William Thorp.
The Germans added a run in the fifth inning.
Ty Eriksen led off with a single, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Ruben Manriquez and a passed ball, then scored on a following single by Klaus Nicolini.
In the sixth inning, Munich-Haar lifted the lead to a comfortable 4-0.
William Thorp led off with a single and stole second base, then the bases got loaded when Simon Lechner reached on an error and Christoph Ziegler walked.
A single by Josh Petersen and grounder by Mitch Stephan accounted for two runs, but hereafter, two runners were left behind.
In the top of the seventh inning, Jakub Izold took over the pitching for the Czech squad.
He silenced the German offense and went on to become the winning pitcher, thanks to a spectacular, late comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning.
D.J. Jauss almost went the distance for the Disciples, but in the end was left empty-handed and became the losing pitcher.
Jauss didn't encounter that much problems, as he was supported by his defense.
Brno stranded three runners (two in scoring position) in the first three innings, then was retired in order in the fourth.
Trailing 2-0, Brno got close to a run in its fifth at bat.
Michal Ondráček and Karel Hrušovský led off with singles and executed a double-steal with one out, but then were left behind on second and third base.
In the sixth, Jauss was supported with a double play and retired the side again in the seventh.
Brno left runners on first and second base in the eighth, but then struck in the ninth.
When the bottom of the ninth began, Brno trailed 4-0.
Michael Kremláček led off with a single, but next batter Tomáš Polanský grounded into a double play.
And so, Munich-Haar was only one out away from its first ELB-victory.
But Brno staged a remarkable comeback to turn the game its way.
With two outs, Michal Ondráček singled and moved on a wild pitch.
He then scored Brno's first run on a single by pinch-hitter Alexander Derhak.
The bases then got loaded when Arnošt Dubový and Jakub Hajtmar both walked.
Hereafter, veteran Pavel Budský underscored that he is still a productive hitter, as he delivered a 2-run single that narrowed the deficit to 4-3.
That led to a pitching change.
Gregory Hendrix took over for D.J. Jauss, but he was greeted with a walk-off, 2-run double by Přemek Chroust that gave Brno a 5-4 victory!
