Neptunus needs 10 innings to win milestone-game
Nederlands
HAARLEM (Neth.) -
Curaçao Neptunus faced a tough DSS on Saturday (July 9) and needed an extra inning to win 4-2 in what was a milestone-game for the Rotterdam-squad.
Neptunus played its 1,500th regular season game today to become the fifth team in history to reach this mark.
Neptunus trails Kinheim, ADO (Lakers), Sparta(/Feyenoord) and HCAW.
Unfortunately, ADO and Sparta are no longer playing at the big league-level.
HCAW is the all-time leader and today played its 1,774th big league game.
There are only two more teams with 1,000 or more games in the highest Dutch league, being Amsterdam Pirates and Hoofddorp Pioniers.
Neptunus and DSS both scored once in the first inning today, then were held scoreless in the remainder of the game.
In the sixth through eighth inning, Neptunus was held hitless by rookie Alex Marcussen, who made his big league-debut.
Neptunus collected only five hits today and was outhit 10-5.
Neptunus scored three runs in the top of the tenth inning.
Gianison Boekhoudt then broke the tie with a 2-run single.
Orlando Yntema started for Neptunus, but as the game was tied at 1-1 when he was relieved after seven innings, he missed the chance to record his tenth victory of the season.
