BUSSUM (Neth.) -
Chris Pfau threw a complete game, 9-inning No-Hitter on Saturday (July 9) in a 3-0 shutout for Vaessen Pioniers against HCAW, which now has lost eight games in a row.
However, while Pfau was keeping HCAW hitless, the game was still scoreless after six innings.
Pioniers then opened the score in the top of the seventh via a wild pitch, then added two more runs in the ninth inning.
Despite hitting no basehits, HCAW got into scoring position twice in the first four innings, but failed to score.
With two outs in the first, there was a runner on third base.
And in the fourth at bat, HCAW had runners on first and second base with two outs.
Hereafter, the Bussum-squad didn't got another runner in scoring position off Pfau, who struckout thirteen batters and retired the last 12 batters he faced in order.
Pfau's No-Hitter is the 48th in the history of the Dutch big league.
It is also the third No-Hitter this season, but the first in a 9-inning game.
On May 7, Pioniers was the victim itself of the first No-Hitter this season, thrown by Orlando Yntema (Curaçao Neptunus) in an 11-0, 7-inning, mercy-rule loss.
On June 26, Elton Koeiman (De Glaskoning Twins) threw the second one in a 4-0 win against DSS in a game that was halted after seven innings due to rain.
The last 9-inning No-Hitter was thrown on July 30 of last season by Orlando Yntema in a 5-0 win for Neptunus against UVV.
The last time that three No-Hitters were thrown in one season was in 1961.
Pioniers was limited to only five hits itself, which were produced by three players.
Besides the No-Hitter, there was also a change in the umpiring assignments halfway the game, as 1B Umpire André Eijpe left the game in the top of the fifth inning with a heel-injury.
3B Umpire Stenar van Groningen Schinkel took over at first base.
