Dutch roster announced for Baseball Week Haarlem

NIEUWEGEIN (Neth.) - The roster for the Netherlands Kingdom Team for the upcoming 28th edition of the Baseball Week Haarlem has been announced by Manager Steve Janssen. As of now, there are 23 players listed on the roster, the 24th will be added shortly before the event, which opens next Friday, July 15.

Twenty of the players on the roster are currently playing in the Dutch big league. Three others played abroad. Utility player Yurendell de Caster has been with the Orange squad for most big tournaments since 2003. In the beginning of this year, De Caster played in the professional competition of Nicaragua, where he won the national championship-title. Outfielder Christopher Garia played professionally in the organization of the Texas Rangers, but was released late June. Last year, he made his debut in the Dutch squad during the Premier12 in Taiwan. Pitcher Mike Bolsenbroek plays in the highest German league for Buchbinder Regensburg Legionäre, for whom he also plays in the Euro League Baseball.

Three players are unable to play for the Orange squad due to injuries, pitchers Rob Cordemans and Kevin Heijstek (both L&D Amsterdam Pirates) and outfielder Randolph Oduber (Curaçao Neptunus).

Four players will make their National Team-debut, pitcher Tom de Blok and outfielder Remco Draijer (both L&D Amsterdam Pirates), pitcher Lars Huijer (Vaessen Pioniers) and catcher Sander Paap (Kinheim). Huijer pitched professionally in 2011-2014 in the organization of the Seattle Mariners (Rookie League/Single-A).

Later this year, the Netherlands Kingdom Team also participates in the France International Baseball Tournament in Sénart (August 31-September 4). This event will be the final preparation for the squad for the European Championship, which follows in September and will be held in Hoofddorp (Netherlands).

The Baseball Week Haarlem opens next Friday. Curaçao and Japan will then open the event at 7 PM. The Dutch squad plays its first game on Saturday-evening at 7 PM against Curaçao. Beginning at 2 PM on Saturday, Australia and Taiwan will face each other.

The roster looks as follows:

Tom de Blok (L&D Amsterdam Pirates), Mike Bolsenbroek (Buchbinder Regensburg Legionäre, Germany), Bayron Cornelisse, Berry van Driel, Kevin Kelly, Diegomar Markwell, Loek van Mil, Orlando Yntema (all Curaçao Neptunus), Lars Huijer (Vaessen Pioniers), Jim Ploeger (HCAW) and Tom Stuifbergen (Kinheim).

Catchers (2):
Gianison Boekhoudt (Curaçao Neptunus) and Sander Paap (Kinheim).

Infielders (6):
Yurendell de Caster (no team), Dwayne Kemp, Stijn van der Meer (both Curaçao Neptunus), Dudley Leonora, Kevin Moesquit (both Kinheim) and Nick Urbanus (L&D Amsterdam Pirates).

Outfielders (4):
Christian Diaz (Curaçao Neptunus), Remco Draijer, Gilmer Lampe (both L&D Amsterdam Pirates) and Christopher Garia (ex-minor league Texas Rangers).
