 Openers Play-Offs and Play-Downs rain out

   AMSTERDAM / HAARLEM / DORDRECHT (Neth.) -
The four opening games of the Play-Offs and Play-Downs were all cancelled on Thursday (August 11) due to ongoing and steady rain throughout the day, resulting in unplayable fields.
All games have been re-scheduled for Friday-evening, August 12, starting at 7:30 PM.
Rainy weather was expected for Thursday and indeed, rain started to fall in the late morning and early afternoon.
A lot of rain fell in Amsterdam, resulting in the Play-Off match-up between L&D Amsterdam Pirates and Vaessen Pioniers becoming the first to be scratched.
Some 45 minutes later, it was announced that the other opening game in the Play-Offs between Kinheim and reigning champion Curaçao Neptunus in Haarlem also was cancelled due to an unplayable field.
That was the situation around 3 PM in the afternoon.
At that time, the two opening games in the Play-Downs were still on schedule.
However, later in the afternoon, word came that the game between De Glaskoning Twins and Pickles UVV also was cancelled.
That game was to be played at the site of The Hawks in Dordrecht, where Twins plays its evening games.
That left the match-up between DSS and HCAW in Haarlem as the lone one with a possible chance to continue.
The site of DSS is located next to that of Kinheim.
However, the difference is that the site of DSS has artificial grass, making it more favorable to play, despite rainy weather conditions.
It was reported that the groudscrew of DSS worked hard on the field, but in the end, it just stayed to wet and so, this game was the last to be cancelled.
The Play-Offs and Play-Downs now will open on Friday-evening.
It is expected that the announced starting pitchers for tonight now will start on Friday.
The series continue on Saturday and Sunday.
