Exhibition game Cuba vs. Netherlands Kingdom Team rains out again
Nederlands
HAVANA (Cuba) -
The exhibition game between Cuba and the Netherlands Kingdom Team, re-scheduled to be played this afternoon (Tuesday, January 12), has been cancelled again due to rainy weather conditions.
The game initially was to be played on Monday, preceeded by a Homerun Contest, at Estadio Latinoamericano in Cuban capital Havana.
Because of the rain, the game was then also called off and was postponed to today, starting at 1:30 PM local time with the Homerun Derby.
With that, a scheduled clinic in the morning for Cuban children, to be conducted by the Dutch players was cancelled.
However, there was more rain today and with that the authorities decided in the morning to cancel all activities definitively.
Both teams were eager to play the game (which would have taken five innings today), but that was impossible because of the weather conditions.
The game was part of a Dutch social trade mission to Cuba, which left on Sunday and is led by Lilianne Ploumen, the Netherlands Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation.
Participating in the mission are 77 parties, including businesses, sport-representatives and cultural organisations.
With the mission, which runs through January 13, the Netherlands intends to build a broad relationship with Cuba.
Instead of playing, it was reported that representatives of both federations now hold talks about the purpose of strengthening relations, without ruling out that the meeting is conducted at another time.
