Kinheim vs. HCAW
Lefthanded starter Jim Ploeger had a great outing for HCAW today.
He struckout eight batters in the 8 1/3 inning he pitched and allowed only six basehits.
The Bussum-squad opened the score right away in the top of the first inning off of veteran David Bergman.
Boyd Tuhumury and Roelie Henrique led off with singles, which led to runners on first and third base.
A wild pitch followed, which enabled Tuhumury to score the first run.
Henrique also advanced, then Rossini Frolijk walked, but Bergman retired the next three batters to limit the damage to only one run.
In the third inning, Tuhumury again led off with a single, but this time, he stranded on third base.
Ploeger retired the side (two strikeouts) in the first inning, then was supported with a double play in the second inning.
But he then gave up the tying run in the bottom of the third inning.
Sander Paap led off with a double, moved on a sacrifice bunt by Jochem Koedijk, then was awarded the plate when a balk was called.
Shortly hereafter, Jasper Keijzer was awarded first base on catcher's interference.
He then advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Julio Hernandez and a wild pitch, but stranded on third base, as Ploeger closed with a strikeout.
Kinheim got into scoring position again in the fourth inning.
The at bat began with a walk for Bryan Engelhardt, who played again in his first game after having sitting out a long suspension.
With one out, the veteran player advanced on a single by Victor Draijer, but hereafter, Niels van Weert lined into a double play.
In the fifth, HCAW re-took the lead, scoring an unearned run.
Julian Goins led off with a single, then moved on an one-out single by Roelie Henrique.
The latter was forced out on a grounder by Rossini Frolijk.
That moved Goins to third base and he was able to score when a throwing error towards first base followed trying to complete a double play.
Frolijk moved into scoring position when next batter Vince Rooi walked, but he was later forced out to end the at bat.
In the remainder of the game, both teams got runners into scoring position, but they failed to add runs.
With one out in the seventh, Boyd Tuhumury and Roelie Henrique singled for HCAW, but hereafter Rossini Frolijk grounded into a double play.
In the eighth, HCAW got a runner on third base.
With one out, Kevin Nieveld doubled, which led to a pitching change, as Nick Veltkamp took over for Bergman.
He saw Nieveld advanced on a wild pitch, but he stranded.
In the ninth, with one out, Julian Goins was walked by Veltkamp, who was then relieved by Reggie Bomberg.
He was greeted with the fourth basehit in this game by Boyd Tuhumury.
However, with runners on first and second base, Roelie Henrique this time grounded into an inning-ending double play.
Jim Ploeger retired the side in the fifth, sixth and seventh inning, but the suspense grew in the eighth and ninth inning.
In the eighth, with two outs and trailing only 2-1, Jasper Keijzer and Julio Hernandez both singled for Kinheim.
They stranded when next batter Kevin Moesquit flied out.
In the bottom of the ninth, with one out, Dudley Leonora walked and that brought HCAW's Head Coach Roy Berrevoets to the mound.
Ploeger, who had done fine, was relieved by Ian Delemarra, who saw Victor Draijer foul out.
And so, HCAW was now only one out away from victory, but a grounder by next batter Niels van Weert ended in a throwing error.
To make it even more suspensful, Delemarre followed with a wild pitch that brought the runners to second and third base.
Delemarre recovered and a flyout ended the game to secure the victory.
