HCAW vs. DSS
After collecting 15 basehits on Saturday, HCAW today registered 13 against DSS.

HCAW struck immediately with four runs in the opening at bat off of starting pitcher Mike Groen. He got the bases loaded quickly, as Boyd Tuhumury led off with a single, then Roelie Henrique walked and Julian Goins also singled. The bases were cleared when Vince Rooi followed with a 3-run double. He advanced on a grounder, then later scored the fourth run in the at bat on a 2-out single by Dalvin Kortstam.

The Bussum-squad added two runs in the third inning off of new pitcher Mark van Deursen. He also saw the bases getting loaded when the first three batters reached base. Kevin Weijgertse led off with a single, then Raoell Kortstam walked and Jelle Blaauw followed with another single. A run was then scored on a grounder by Dalvin Kortstam. The bases were re-loaded when Marciano Philippi walked and the next run was scored on a sacrifice fly by Rossini Frolijk.

Another productive at bat followed in the fourth inning in which HCAW again scored four runs. Roelie Henrique and pinch-hitter Levine Gabriëls led off with walks. With one out, the bases got loaded when Kevin Weijgertse singled. Henrique and Gabriëls then scored when Raoell Kortstam followed with a 2-run single. That brought in new pitcher Max Ploegstra, who saw two more runs being scored on respectively a sacrifice fly by Jelle Blaauw and a single by Dalvin Kortstam.

HCAW scored its final run in the sixth inning off of Sven van der Sanden, who is a regular outfielder. He gave up a lead-off single to Vince Rooi, who later scored on a wild pitch. Van der Sanden closed with two strikeouts.

Newcomer Jim Ploeger started for HCAW. The lefthander walked three batters, but gave up no hits. In the third, with one out, he walked Ryan Miner and rookie Tristan Kim. The latter was added to the team for today's game. Hereafter, Kaj Timmermans took over for Ploeger and HCAW ended the inning with a double play.

In the fourth, with one out, Tino van Erk connected for a double, which was the first basehit for DSS, but he stranded on second base.

In the fifth, off of Gijs van Els, American Melvin Perdue led off with a single, then stole second base. With two outs, DSS got the bases loaded when Tristan Kim was hit by a pitch and Koen Halderman walked, but they were all left behind.

Tim Niekerk retired the side in the sixth. He and Van Els were scheduled to pitch two innings today. The game initially was to take eight innings, but as DSS was running out of pitchers, it was decided to play six innings. And with that, they both threw only one inning.

A defensive highlight came in the third at bat. Rossini Frolijk was added to the batting order for HCAW and he popped the ball up into short leftfield. There, leftfielder Koen Halderman came in to catch the ball. However, the ball jumped up from his glove, then was caught just above the ground by short stop Tristan Kim for a rare F76 out.
