Kinheim vs. HCAW
For seven innings, Kinheim was en route to an Opening Night-victory, but that changed in the last two innings.
Starter Tom Stuifbergen retired the first eight batters he faced, five of them with a strikeout.
In the third, he gave up a 2-out single to Jelle Blaauw, but he was caught stealing.
In the fourth, the righthander gave up a lead-off single to Boyd Tuhumury, who moved on a sacrifice bunt by Roelie Henrique, but then stranded.
In the fifth, Kevin Weijgertse led off for HCAW with a single, but didn't get beyond first base.
In the sixth, with one out, Stuifbergen was relieved by Reggie Bomberg.
He was greeted with a double by Tuhumury, then walked Henrique.
Hereafter, a double play was turned on a line drive by Rossini Frolijk.
In the seventh, Bomberg retired the side and so, the Kinheim-pitching didn't encounter much problems so far.
Kinheim was also held scoreless for five innings.
HCAW-starter Kaj Timmermans gave up an one-out single in the first inning to Niels van Weert, but he was left at second base.
In the next inning, Dexter de Weert walked with two outs, but then was picked off at first base.
After stranding a runner on first base in the third, Kinheim got a runner in scoring position in the fourth.
Kevin Moesquit then led off with a walk and stole second base with one out, but then was left behind.
After a runner was caught stealing in the fifth, Kinheim opened the score in the sixth.
When Jochem Koedijk led off with a walk, Timmermans was replaced by Giovanni Tensen, then the runner moved on a sacrifice bunt by Niels van Weert.
A walk for Kevin Moesquit followed.
A flyout enabled Koedijk to advance to third base and he then scored when next batter Dudley Leonora reached on an error.
Moments later, Moesquit scored the next run on a single by Oliver Severino van der Wijst.
After a scoreless seventh inning, HCAW struck with five runs in the top of the eighth inning.
The first nine batters of the Bussum-club all reached base, the first five of them with a basehit!
The bases got loaded when Kevin Nieveld, pinch-hitter Marciano Philippi and pinch-hitter Gianni Frolijk all singled.
Herafter, Boyd Tuhumury also singled to bring in a run.
With the bases still loaded and the score now at 2-1, Bomberg was relieved by Scott Ronnenbergh.
The lefthander was greeted with a runscoring single by Roelie Henrique, which tied the score.
Pinch-hitter Dalvin Kortstam then reached on a fielder's choice in his first-ever big league at bat.
On his hit, Tuhumury was forced out on third base, but Frolijk scored the go-ahead run.
A following walk for Vince Rooi re-loaded the bases and a walk for Kevin Weijgertse provided HCAW with another run.
Julian Goins then became the ninth consecutive batter to reach, as he delivered a runscoring single that made it 5-2.
The inning then ended and three runners were left behind when Ronnenbergh closed with two strikeouts.
HCAW added two more runs in the top of the ninth off of rookie Chiel Berkhout.
He gave up singles to Gianni Frolijk (lead-off) and Roelie Henrique (with one out).
A throwing error on a grounder by Dalvin Kortstam and a single by Vince Rooi then lifted the lead to 7-2.
The two additional runs were much needed, as Kinheim rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Pinch-hitter Thomas Bos led off with a walk, which led to a pitching change.
Rookie Jay-Jay Muller took over from Gijs van Els, who had come on in the seventh.
But Muller ran into problems in his big league-debut.
He walked Sander Paap, then gave up back-to-back doubles to Jasper Keijzer (one-run) and Jochem Koedijk (2-run) that narrowed the deficit to 7-5.
Muller was replaced by Ian Delemarre, who gave up a single to Niels van Weert.
A force play-grounder by Kevin Moesquit accounted for the first out, but also brought in Koedijk and made it 7-6.
Next, Bryan Engelhardt lined out, but Dudley Leonora followed with a single, which put runners on first and second base.
But hereafter, a grounder followed that ended the game and sealed the first win of the season for HCAW.
