UVV vs. DSS
UVV-starter Timo van Ancum did very well in his first start of the season.
The righthander retired the first 13 batters in a row, then gave up a run in the fifth inning.
At that moment, UVV already was leading 4-0.
UVV opened the score in the first inning off of Rik Geestman.
The lefthander walked lead-off hitter Julian Rip, then gave up an RBI-double to Jamie Verheyleweghen.
Moments later, DSS-catcher Ruben Prins had to leave the game after being hit on his right arm by a foul ball of the bat of Tim Veraghtert.
While the arm of Prins was swollen immediately, it was reported that there was no fracture, but that he will be sidelined in the upcoming weekend.
Mitchell Koot, who started at third base, took over behind the plate.
Two flyouts followed, but then Sergino Martis doubled to make it 2-0.
In the second inning, Geestman picked off a runner at first base, then was supported with a double play in the third, which followed on a line drive by Omar Williams.
UVV added two runs in the fourth.
Sergino Martis led off with a single and Berend Ruben walked.
They advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Norbert Jongerius, then both scored on a 2-out single by Dennis Ribbens
An infield-hit by Jullian Rip followed, but then Ribbens was caught stealing at third base to end the inning.
In the top of the fifth, DSS scored its lone run.
With one out, Sven van der Sanden became the first runner for the Haarlem-team when he walked.
Hereafter, Seb Visser singled.
With two outs, Joffrey Heus also singled to bring in Van der Sanden, but that was to be it for DSS.
DSS got some more baserunners, but wasn't lucky on the bases.
In the sixth, Melvin Perdue reached on an error, but was picked off on first base.
In the seventh, Mitchell Koot and Sven van der Sanden led off with walks, but later UVV turned a double play in a strikeout-caught stealing situation.
In the eighth, another runner was eliminated after a pick-off.
Hereafter, Perdue walked and pinch-hitter Menno Lenting doubled, but they stranded on second and third base.
UVV added three runs in the sixth inning off of Gijs Timmer.
With one out, Norbert Jongerius doubled.
With two outs, he moved on a wild pitch, then scored on a single by Dennis Ribbens.
Julian Rip then followed with another single.
Next, Jamie Verheyleweghen also singled to bring in a run, then an outfield-error followed which led to the next run.
In the eighth, UVV lifted the lead to 9-1 off of Max Ploegstra.
With two outs, he walked pinch-hitter Tijmen Takke, who then scored when an error followed a double by Julian Rip, who was also able to score himself on the error.
