Make-up game Neptunus vs. Pirates rains out
Nederlands
ROTTERDAM (Neth.) -
The re-scheduled game between league-leaders Curaçao Neptunus and L&D Amsterdam Pirates, which was to be played tonight (Tuesday, June 14), has been cancelled due to rain and field conditions.
The game initially was scheduled for Friday, May 27, but then was halted by the umpiring crew in the bottom of the fourth inning with Neptunus hitting when a bench-clearing brawl escalated.
According to a report by the Committee of Penalties, the bench-clearing initially began after an exchange of words followed a hard sliding at second base and then escalated later.
Shortly thereafter, the umpires halted the game definitively.
Six players (three of each team) were suspended, including one for a year.
Amsterdam Pirates appealed the suspensions of its players Linoy Croes, Michael Duursma and Gilmer Lampe, while Neptunus only appealed against the suspensions for Dwayne Kemp and Rien Vernooij.
The third player, Raily Legito sat out the remainder of his suspension last weekend.
It was decided that the game had to be replayed in its entirety and was re-scheduled for tonight to be played in Rotterdam.
However, there was some heavy rain through the morning and the early afternoon, which made the field of the Rotterdam-stadium unplayable.
With that, the game was cancelled.
The game has been re-scheduled for next Tuesday, June 21.
The game is the final one of the first half of the regular season, which ended for all other teams on May 29.
The winner of this game will finish in first place, the losing team ends up in second place.
Whatever the result, both teams already secured a spot in the Play-Offs by finishing in either first or second place.
