Vaessen Pioniers vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates
Pioniers threatened to open the score right away in the bottom of the first inning, as it got the bases loaded off of rookie pitcher Hidde Brocken.
The righthander gave up a lead-off infield-hit to Christopher Garia, then a single to Zerzinho Croes.
The two moved on a sacrifice bunt by Mervin Gario, then the bases got loaded when Kevin Dirksen walked with two outs.
But the three runners stranded, as Brocken closed the inning with a strikeout.
Brocken then retired the side in the second inning, but gave up a lead-off homerun to Garia that gave Pioniers an 1-0 lead.
But that lead didn't last long.
Lefthander Nick Keur started for Pioniers.
He started well, as he retired the first nine batters he faced.
But he then gave up two runs in the fourth.
Nick Urbanus led off with a single, then an error was made on a sacrifce bunt by Michael Duursma.
Another sac-bunt followed, this time by Gilmer Lampe, which moved the two runners.
Amsterdam tied the score on a sacrifice fly by Kenny Berkenbosch, then got another runner when Remco Draijer walked.
Danny Rombley followed with a runscoring single that gave Amsterdam a 2-1 lead.
Amsterdam added three more runs in the fifth inning.
With one out and Max Clarijs (fielder's choice) on first base, Keur was charged with a balk and Nick Urbanus then walked.
With two outs, the bases got loaded when Gilmer Lampe walked.
Moments later, the bases were cleared when Kenny Berkenbosch delivered a 3-run double that lifted the lead to 5-1.
Pioniers had left a runner on first base in the fourth, then scored a run in the bottom of the fifth.
With one out, Christopher Garia singled and advanced to third base when a pick-off ended in a throwing error.
He then scored on a single by Zerzinho Croes, but two flyouts ended the inning.

After Pioniers turned a double play in the top of the sixth, the team faced a 5-2 deficit when the bottom half of the inning began.
Hidde Brocken walked lead-off hitter Kevin Dirksen, which led to a pitching change.
Pim Walsma took over, but was greeted with a single by Brian Raap.
After striking out the next batter, he walked Max Draijer, which loaded the bases.
Walsma then hit Brennan Nijhof with a pitch, which led to the third run for Pioniers and another pitching change.
Walsma was relieved by lefthander Kyle Ward, who is still recovering from an injury.
Ward made his last appearance on June 18 when he started against DSS, threw six innings and was the winning pitcher.
The lefthander is one of the (four) pitchers on the Amsterdam-roster, who was (or is) injured.
With the bases loaded, Ward gave up a 2-run double to Christopher Garia and that tied the score at 5-5.
Next, both Nijhof and the speedy Garia scored on a following wild pitch, giving Pioniers a 7-5 lead.
Amsterdam got one run back in the seventh inning.
Max Clarijs led off with a walk and after Nick Urbanus flied out, Maickel Rietel was brought in to take over for Nick Keur.
A pop-up accounted for the second out, but then Gilmer Lampe walked and Kenny Berkenbosch reached on an error, which brought in Clarijs and made it a 7-6 score.
With runners on first and third base, a flyout ended the at bat.
Pioniers added two insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh off of Ward.
Quintin De Cuba led off with a single, then Kevin Dirksen reached on a ground-rule double.
The two scored when next batter Brian Raap also hit a ground-rule double.
Ward retired the next three batters (two strikeouts), but Pioniers now led 9-6.
In the top of the eighth, with two outs, Rashid Gerard singled for Amsterdam, but was eliminated trying to stretch it into a double.
In the ninth, closer Sedley Karel took over the Pioniers-pitching.
He walked (pinch-hitter) Jesse Aussems and Nick Urbanus and so, Amsterdam appeared to have something in the making.
Hereafter, Michael Duursma flied out, then Karel struckout Gilmer Lampe and Kenny Berkenbosch to end the game.
