UVV vs. DSS
Before the game, UVV traditionally had its official home opening of the new season, which involved many youth players. They were able to meet the players and collect autographs. During the player introductions, they high-fived the players of both teams. Hereafter, the ceremonial first pitch was thrown by Paulus Jansen, who is the Alderman of Sports of the Municipality of Utrecht to which UVV's home location Vleuten belongs.

Behind the plate in this game was veteran umpire Olav Steijger, who last Thursday-evening began his 20th season in the Dutch big league.

UVV decided the game with a 6-run rally in the fourth inning, but trailed 2-1 at that moment. UVV then held DSS scoreless in the remainder of the game and went on to register another comfortable victory.

DSS was productive in its first two at bat off of starting pitcher Jurjen van Zijl. In the first inning, Melvin Perdue led off for DSS with a single, but was elimiated in a double play. In the second inning, DSS left two runners behind.

UVV stranded a runner in both the first and second inning off of Mike Groen, but then opened the score in the third inning, thanks to a trio of Belgian players. Dennis Ribbens led off with a single, then Jamie Verheyleweghen doubled with one out. A grounder by Tim Veraghtert then led to the first run.

DSS answered with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Mitchell Koot led off with a single and Menno Lenting singled with one out. With two outs, both scored when Joffrey Heus delivered a 2-run single. DSS then got the bases loaded when Mitchel Dautzenberg was hit by a pitch and Melvin Perdue walked, but they were left behind.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, with two outs, UVV reacted with a 6-run rally on six basehits. With two outs and Berend Ruben (fielder's choice) on first base, a wild pitch and a walk for Norbert Jongerius followed. They scored when Dennis Ribbens connected for a triple, which gave UVV a 3-2 lead. A nice bunt-single (squeeze) by Julian Rip led to the next run. Rip stole second base, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Jamie Verheyleweghen. A double by Tim Veraghtert and single by Omar Williams lifted the lead to 7-2.

UVV scored its eighth run in the eighth inning off of reliever Kevin Geestman. Dennis Ribbens then led off with a single and scored on a passed ball with two outs.

After scoring twice in the fourth inning, DSS left five runners behind in the remainder of the game. Three of them were standing in scoring position.
