Kinheim vs. Curaçao Neptunus
Kinheim-starter Tom Stuifbergen threw six strong innings, striking out ten batters and giving up only five basehits, while being supported with fine defense.
Diegomar Markwell started for Neptunus and retired the side in the first and second inning of the quick-paced game.
The lefthander then gave up three runs in the third at bat.
Sander Paap led off with a single, then the bases got loaded when Jochem Koedijk reached on a nice bunt-single and Jasper Keijzer walked.
Hereafter, Julio Hernandez delivered a runscoring single.
Koedijk then scored when next batter Kevin Moesquit grounded to third baseman Raily Legito, who forced out Hernandez at second base.
However, a throwing error followed trying to complete a double play and that enabled Keijzer to score the next run and make it 3-0.
Tom Stuifbergen was supported with a double play in the second inning, then struckout the side in the third at bat.
With one out in the fourth, the righthander gave up two runs.
First, Raily Legito singled, then Gianison Boekhoudt hit his fourth homerun of the season, hiting into deep rightfield.
Hereafter, two line drive outs, one back to Stuifbergen, the next one to second baseman Kevin Moesquit, ended the inning.
Neptunus was retired in order again in the fifth, then got into scoring position for the second time this game in the sixth.
With two outs, Raily Legito hit his third single in three at bats, then Gianison Boekhoudt walked.
But hereafter, Stuifbergen closed with his tenth strikeout of the evening.
In the bottom of the sixth, Kinheim added a run when Bryan Engelhardt hit his first homerun of the season (with one out) to make it a 4-2 score.
Neptunus came alongside in the top of the seventh off of reliever Nick Veltkamp thanks to two errors.
Daniel Fernandes led off with a walk, then moved to third base on a nice bunt-single by Shaldimar Daantji.
Hereafter, Daantji would have been picked off succesfully, but an error was made and so, he stayed at first base, while the situation enabled Fernandes to score.
Moments later, Daantji stole second base, advanced on a single by Shadrach Meulens and scored on a force play-grounder by Dwayne Kemp.
On this grounder, Meulens reached second base safely as an error was made.
Shortly hereafter, Kemp was picked off on first base and was elimimated in a rundown.
That brought Meulens to third base, but he stranded there, as a grounder ended the at bat.
But the score was tied at 4-4.
Kinheim immediately broke the tie in its seventh at bat.
Sander Paap led off with a double, his third basehit in three at bats, then moved on an infield-hit by Oliver van der Wijst Severino.
Next batter Jochem Koedijk then grounded into a double play, but that scored Paap to make it 5-4 again in favor of Kinheim.
Neptunus was retired in order again in the top of the eighth.
In the ninth, it got its lead-off hitter on base when Daniel Fernandes walked, but that was followed by a delay.
It appeared that Veltkamp was bothered by something and he was replaced by Reggie Bomberg.
He saw Fernandes advance on a sacrifice bunt and a flyout.
With Fernandes at third base, the inning and the game ended with a close play at first base on a grounder by Shadrach Meulens.
But Field Umpire (there were only two umpires tonight) Henri van Heijningen made a clear (and correct) call, which ended the game after only two hours and 15 minutes.
