Vaessen Pioniers vs. De Glaskoning Twins
Pioniers opened the score with one run in the first inning off of starter Brendan Schoemaker.
Zerzinho Croes led off with a single, then Mervin Gario was hit by a pitch.
The bases got loaded when a force play-grounder by Max Draijer didn't result in an out.
Next batter Quintin De Cuba walked to put Pioniers ahead.
But hereafter, the home team stranded three runners, as the next three batters were eliminated.
Pioniers added two runs in the second inning.
With one out, the bases got loaded when Brennan Nijhof and Zerzinho Croes (bunt) singled, then Marvin Gario was hit by a pitch again.
A following grounder by Max Draijer ended in an error and resulted in two runs that gave Pioniers a 3-0 lead.
Lars Huijer started for Pioniers and had a fine outing with 12 strikeouts.
The righthander gave up only four basehits in the seven innings he pitched.
He gave up all these basehits in the third inning in which Twins rallied for six runs, which almost would decide the game in favor of the Brabant-team.
Twins got the bases loaded when lead-off hitter Stijn Janssens was hit by a pitch, an error followed on a force play-grounder by Christopher Ge and Shurty Tremus singled.
Jarreau Martina followed with a 2-run double, then a single by Bart Hanegraaff made it a 3-3 tie.
After Hanegraaff stole second base, the bases got loaded again when Adrian Anthony walked.
Twins then took a 4-3 lead on a grounder by Jeffrey Arends.
A force play was created by walking Berry van Donselaar intentionally, but hereafter, Huijer uncorked a wild pitch, which led to the next run.
With two outs, a single by Stijn Janssens in his second at bat in the inning made it 6-3 in favor of Twins.
But that was it for Twins.
Huijer recovered and allowed only one more batter to reach base in the next four innings.
That happened in the fourth, when Bart Hanegraaff walked with two outs, but he was then caught stealing.
Huijer retired the side in the next three at bats.
In the meantime, Brendan Schoemaker also did fine on the mound for Twins.
In the third, the righthander walked lead-off hitter Kevin Dirksen, then gave up a double to Shurman Marlin, but he then would retire the next 12 batters in a row.
Things changed in the bottom of the seventh inning when Pioniers scored three runs to come alongside.
Lead-off hitter Zerzinho Croes reached on an error, then Mervin Gario singled.
With one out, the two moved on a wild pitch, then Quintin De Cuba was walked intentionally.
Two runs were scored when Kevin Dirksen followed with a single and a sacrifice fly by Shurman Marlin made it a 6-6 score.
In the top of the eighth, Jonah Van Bemmelen took over the pitching for Pioniers.
He gave up a lead-off single to Adrian Anthony, but a double play followed.
Twins also changed pitchers in the bottom of the eighth, as Ben Van Nuffel took the mound.
He walked pinch-hitter Stephen Henson, then hit Mervin Gario with a pitch with two outs.
For Gario, it was the third time tonight that he was hit by a pitch, which is very rare for one batter.
What makes it more unique is that at the same time, HCAW-player Levine Gabriëls also was hit three times by a pitch in the game against Pickles UVV.
However, Van Nuffel closed with a strikeout.
Maickel Rietel became the third pitcher for Pioniers in the top of the ninth and then retired the side, including two strikeouts.
In the bottom of the ninth, Pioniers got the bases loaded.
Quintin De Cuba led off with a double and was able to move to third base when an outfield-error followed.
With one out, both Shurman Marlin and pinch-hitter Brian Raap were walked intentionally to set up a force play.
With the bases loaded, Matthew Latta was brought in to relief Ben Van Nuffel.
He got to a 2-2 count on next batter Stephen Henson, but then threw a wild pitch that enabled De Cuba to score the winning run for Pioniers.
