DSS vs. UVV
UVV led 10-0 after four innings, but failed to end the game in seven innings via the mercy-rule, as DSS scored twice in the sixth.
UVV then reached the 10-run difference again in the eighth, but by scoring once in the bottom of the eighth, DSS again avoided a mercy-rule loss.
DSS-starter Tim Halderman didn't encounter problems in the first two innings, giving only one basehit.
But he would give up nine basehits and ten runs in the next two at bats.
UVV rallied for six runs in the third inning on five basehits.
With one out, Dennis Ribbens singled and Julian Rip reached on an error.
They both scored when Jamie Verheyleweghen followed with a double.
After next batter Tim Veraghtert had walked, Omar Williams also delivered a 2-run double.
A single by Berend Ruben and a sacrifice fly by Norbert Jongerius then lifted the lead to 6-0.
UVV added four runs in the fourth inning.
The bases got loaded when Halderman gave up singles to Dennis Ribbens, Julian Rip and Jamie Verheyleweghen (bunt).
They all scored on a following triple by Tim Veraghtert, who later scored himself on a grounder by Sergino Martis.
Canadian Jeremy Filipek started for UVV and made his debut in the Dutch big league.
The righthander gave up only three basehits in the six innings he threw.
He gave up his first basehit in the third inning when Joffrey Heus led off with a single, but he was eliminated when Melvin Perdue lined into an unassisted double play to first baseman Jamie Verheyleweghen.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, DSS scored two runs.
With two outs, Koen Halderman reached on an error and Ryan Miner singled.
Hereafter, Ties van der Beeke was inserted as pinch-hitter for Mitchell Koot.
The rookie made his big league-debut and connected for a 2-run double in his first at bat!
UVV made it a 12-2 score by scoring two runs in the top of the eighth inning off of new pitcher Max Ploegstra.
With one out, Julian Rip singled and Steven van Reem reached on an error, then the bases got loaded when Tim Veraghtert also singled.
A single by Mike Bazuin and grounder by Jordan Illis then accounted for the runs.
But again, UVV was unable to hold onto the 10-run difference lead, as DSS scored a run in the bottom of the eighth.
This time, Ties van der Beeke hit a sacrifice fly that enabled Melvin Perdue to score.
DSS scored three more runs in the ninth.
Melvin Perdue singled in a run and Koen Halderman followed with a 2-run double, but that was to be it for the home team.
