Pickles UVV vs. HCAW
HCAW got another fine team-performance, as the pitching/defense/hitting-combination was again successful in its second game against UVV.
Offensively, the team scored three early runs, while the pitching was solid and the defense made the outs.
The Bussum-squad opened the score with one run in the top of the first inning off of starter Gilian van Lith, who closed last Thursday-evening's game by pitching the final inning.
HCAW got the bases loaded in the first inning with one out.
Boyd Tuhumury and Roelie Henrique led off with singles, then Vince Rooi walked with one out.
Tuhumury then scored the first run when next batter Kevin Nieveld also walked.
Hereafter, Henrique was forced out at home and a strikeout ended the at bat, but HCAW had taken an early lead.
Two runs were added in the third inning.
Rossini Frolijk and Vince Rooi began with singles.
With one out, they respectively scored on a a single by Kevin Weijgertse and an error on a grounder by Raoell Kortstam.
The inning ended with a double play.
HCAW made it a 5-0 score when it scored two more runs in the fifth.
This time, Van Lith began with a walk for Kevin Nieveld, who then was forced out on a grounder by Kevin Weijgertse.
Hereafter, the lefthander gave up a 2-run homerun to Raoell Kortstam.
HCAW-starter Kaj Timmermans held UVV scoreless in six innings.
UVV got several baserunners (in scoring position), but was unable to score.
In the second inning, Omar Williams led off with a single, but a double play followed.
Berend Ruben then singled, but he was eliminated in a rundown after a pick-off.
In the third at bat, UVV got its first two batters on base when Dennis Ribbens walked and Sven Jongejans singled.
Two force outs followed.
Trailing 3-0, UVV left the bases loaded with two outs in the fourth.
With one out, Williams singled again, but was forced out on a grounder by Mike Bazuin.
Hereafter, Berend Ruben walked and Dennis Ribbens reached on an error.
But a flyout ended the at bat, leaving three runners behind.
After stranding one runner in the fifth and two in the sixth, UVV scored twice in the seventh inning after a pitching change, while trailing 5-0.
With one out, Gijs van Els took over and walked Rick Kuipers, then gave up a single to pinch-hitter Steven van Reem.
That was followed by a 2-run double by Sergino Martis, which made it 5-2.
Marco Schel then took over for Van Els and walked Omar Williams, which led to another pitching change.
Sander Helmendach was brought in with runners on first and second base and only one out.
He then retired the next two batters to end the at bat and secure the lead.
In the eighth, UVV again failed to do something back, as three more runners were left behind.
Lead-off hitter Dennis Ribbens reached on an error and with two outs, Rick Kuipers singled and Steven van Reem walked.
But the inning and the scoring oportunity ended when Sergino Martis popped out to Sander Helmendach.
In the ninth inning, Oscar Meuris became the fifth pitcher for HCAW.
He retired the side to earn a save.
