Coaching-role Robin van Doornspeek & Ritchie Daal at UVV
Nederlands

VLEUTEN (Neth.) - Big league-team Pickles UVV has added two new coaches to its coaching-staff for coming season. Former Dutch Major League-players and former Netherlands Team-players Robin van Doornspeek and Ritchie Daal will get an instructing role in the coaching--staff, the club confirmed on Friday (November 18). Recently, Ty Eriksen was named the new Head Coach of the team and will make his debut next year. Eriksen succeeded Ferenc Jongejan, who stepped down after having led the team for four seasons.

The lone returning member of this year coaching-staff is Etienne Rijnbergen, who was the 1B Coach this season. Not returning is 3B Coach Joris van Ballegooy, who also retired. The staff will be completed with a yet to be named Assistant Coach.

While the exact compilation of the coaching-staff for next season is discussed at the moment, UVV has confirmed that Van Doornspeek will act as a Pitching Instructor and Daal as Hitting Instructor in the off-season. As of now, both Van Doornspeek and Daal probably will not be with the team during all games next season, but will be present during the practice sessions this winter and next year.

Robin van Doornspeek is a former pitcher and Ritchie Daal was an infielder (he mostly played as short stop). Both played at the big league-level in the past and also have played in the Netherlands National Baseball Team. Daal also coached in the Dutch big league, while Van Doornspeek also has coaching-experience.

Robin van Doornspeek started his career at De Pino's, then also played in youth-teams for Terrasvogels and Kinheim as an infielder and pitcher. He won the Roel de Mon Award in 1998 for Most Talented Youth Pitcher and made his debut in the Dutch big league pitching for Kinheim in 1999. In following years, Van Doornspeek went on to play for Hoofddorp Pioniers, Neptunus and ADO, then returned to Hoofddorp Pioniers, where he ended his big league-career in 2009. While pitching at the highest level, he mostly was used as a reliever or a closer.

Van Doornspeek made his debut in the National Team in 2002. With the Orange squad, he participated in several tournaments, including the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens (Greece), the first World Baseball Classic in 2006, the World Championships of 2003 and 2005 and the European Championship in 2003.

In recent years, Van Doornspeek was one of the coaches at the Kennemerland Baseball Academy and the Netherlands AAA-Team (Juniors), where he was its Pitching Coach.

Ritchie Daal played at the big league-level in the eighties for Haarlem-based Kinheim, Amsterdam-based De Spartaan and Utrecht-based UVV. At De Spartaan, he also acted as Assistant Coach of then-Manager Gerard Stenzler. In the late seventies/early eighties, Daal played for the Netherlands National Team, with whom he participated in the World Championship 1980 in Japan.

Later, Daal was an Assistant Coach of the big league-squad of Amsterdam Pirates. In following years, Daal became the Head Coach of the second teams of Amsterdam Pirates and Almere '90, which then played in the second highest league (First Division). During the 2006 season, Daal took over as interim Head Coach of Almere '90. He then led the squad the following year. In both seasons, Almere played in the hightest division.
