HCAW Rookies vs. HCAW
On another cold day, HCAW held its Rookie League-team scoreless and collected seven basehits, including two by Marciano Philippi, who also scored twice.
HCAW opened the score in the first inning.
Philippi led off with a walk, stole second base, advanced on a grounder, then scored the first run on a single by Vince Rooi.
Moreno Vork, who started for the Rookies, then was supported with a double play and retired the side in the second inning.
HCAW scored its next run in the third at bat.
Boyd Tuhumury also led off with a walk and stole second base.
He was awarded third base on a balk, then scored on an one-out grounder by Gianni Frolijk.
The third run was added in the fourth inning off of Vork.
This time, Marciano Philippi led off with a double, advanced on a grounder by Roelie Henrique and scored on a single by Rossini Frolijk.
HCAW made it a 4--0 score in the fifth inning off of new pitcher Jay-Jay Muller.
With one out, Jelle Blaauw singled, then a throwing error followed on a force play-grounder by Boyd Tuhumury.
On the error, Blaauw moved to third base, then scored on a wild pitch.
In the sixth inning, Marco Schel became the third pitcher for the Rookies.
Schel is on the big league-roster of HCAW, but played for the Rookies today, as the team was incomplete.
Schel retired the side in the sixth, saw a runner strand on third base in the seventh, then gave up three runs in the eighth at bat.
With one out, Raoell Kortstam was hit by a pitch on his wrist and was replaced by Boyd Tuhumury, who had just been eliminated, but now became a pinch-runner.
Gianni Frolijk followed with a single.
With two outs, the bases got loaded when Marciano Philippi singled.
The bases were then cleared by Roelie Henrique and his 3-run double lifted the lead to 7-0.
The Rookies left five runners, all in scoring position.
In the second inning, with two outs and Timo Vos (fielder's choice) on first base off of Kaj Timmermans, Roy Keizer singled, but both runners stranded.
In the third, Timmermans gave up a lead-off single to Milo Botman, but he was left on second base.
In the fourth inning, Ian Delemarre took over the pitching.
He gave up a lead-off single to Dalvin Kortstam, who today also played for the Rookies, instead of the main squad.
Hereafter, a force play-grounder by Pascal Zegwaard resulted in no outs.
With one out, the two runners moved on a sacrifice bunt by Roy Keizer, but were then left behind.
Delemarre retired the side in the fifth and sixth inning, as did Gijs van Els in the final two innings.
The last 15 batters of the Rookies were retired in order.
