Vaessen Pioniers vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates
On a cold and windy afternoon in Hoofddorp, the game between Vaessen Pioniers and L&D Amsterdam Pirates remained scoreless in seven innings.
Amsterdam reached base eight times and stranded seven runners, including four in scoring position.
Pioniers reached base five times and also left five runners, three of whom were standing in scoring position.
Amsterdam Pirates got on base first in the second inning off of starter Lars Huijer.
Danny Rombley, who last season played for Pioniers, led off with a walk, then Remco Draijer followed with a double.
But then a flyout followed and Huijer closed with two strikeouts.
In the fourth inning, off of new pitcher Taylor Clemensia, Michael Duursma led off with a walk, but was forced out.
In the fifth, Clemensia walked Jesse Aussems and Rashid Gerard with one out.
He was then relieved by Sedley Karel, who struckout the next two batters.
In the sixth, with one out, Michael Duursma doubled and moved to third base on a grounder, but then was left behind.
And in the seventh, off of Zerzinho Croes, pinch-hitter Koen Nooij led off with a single, but then three flyouts followed.
Amsterdam-starter Kevin Heijstek retired all nine batters he faced in the three innings he pitched.
Dennis Burgersdijk then took over in the fourth.
With one out, he gave up a double to Mervin Gario, but followed with two strikeouts.
Burgersdijk then retired the side in the fifth, but then gave up a 2-out double in the sixth to pinch-hitter Stephen Henson, who last season played for The Hawks.
Gario, who played the last seasons for Kinheim, followed with a walk, but the two runners stranded.
In the seventh, Daan Hendrix became the new pitcher for Amsterdam and threw a 6-out inning.
With two outs, he walked Shurman Marlin (ex-Neptunus), but then ended with a strikeout.
A 'new' inning then began and Hendrix hit Mark Smit (ex-DSS) with a pitch with one out.
He stole second base, but stranded there, as two flyouts followed that ended the game.
