DSS vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates
Amsterdam Pirates opened the score right away in the first at bat off of starter Mike Groen on three basehits.
Nick Urbanus led off with a single, advanced on a grounder and scored on a 2-out single by Remco Draijer (who then stole second base).
A following double by Kenny Berkenbosch made it 2-0.
The Amsterdam-squad added two runs in the next at bat.
This time, Rashid Gerard led off with a single and next batter Jesse Aussems doubled.
They both scored on an one-out single by Nick Urbanus.
Lefthander Robin Schel made his second start of the season for Pirates.
He gave up the lone run DSS scored today in the second inning when Sven van de Sanden homered with one out.
Pirates again scored two runs in the third at bat of the game.
With one out, Kenny Berkenbosch singled and scored when Rashid Gerard homered with two outs to make it 6-1.
The Amsterdam-squad added its seventh run in the fourth when Nick Urbanus singled, advanced on a wild pitch, then scored on a 2-out single by Danny Rombley.
Trailing 7-1, DSS got the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth inning.
With two outs, Seb Vsser singled, then Sven van de Sanden and his brother Tommy van de Sanden both walked.
But hereafter, a force play-grounder by Mitchel Dautzenberg ended the at bat.
Hereafter, Amsterdam was held scoreless in the next three innings, but stranded two runners in both the fifth and sixth at bat.
The team then added three more runs in the top of the eighth off of Kevin Geestman, the fourth pitcher DSS used in this game.
Koen Nooij led off with a single, then Nick Urbanus followed with his fifth basehit in the game.
That brought rookie Tim van Ee into the batter's box.
He had entered the game defensively in the bottom of the seventh inning as the new third baseman for Pirates to make his big league-debut.
And when he did, he wrote history.
He became the second player in Dutch big league-history whose family-name exists of only two letters.
The first one was Christopher Ge, who made his debut earlier this season, playing for De Glaskoning Twins.
But there was more, as Van Ee became the first-ever player in the highest Dutch league whose family-name is formed by two vowels, not counting the intercalation 'van'.
In his first big league-at bat, Van Ee flied out, but then the bases got loaded when Danny Rombley was hit by a pitch.
A wild pitch then led to a run, but the bases were re-loaded when Remco Draijer walked.
Another walk followed, this time for Kenny Berkenbosch, which led to an automatic run.
With two outs, no outs were made on a force play-grounder by Rashid Gerard.
In this situation, Rombley scored, but Draijer was later eliminated after overrunning the base.
Amsterdam-starter Robin Schel was relieved by Daan Hendrix in the seventh and he retired the side.
Pim Walsma then pitched the eighth and ninth inning and retired the side in both at bats to close the game.
