L&D Amsterdam Pirates vs. Vaessen Pioniers
In today's game, it was Pioniers that opened the score in the second inning, but that was to be the only time the Hoofddorp-squad scored.
Pirates then rallied for five runs in the third inning and went on to register a comfortable victory.
Pioniers got a chance to open the score in the first inning off of starter Kyle Ward, but then left three runners behind.
With one out, the lefthander gave up a single to Zerzinho Croes.
With two outs, the bases got loaded when Ward walked Quintin De Cuba and Kevin Dirksen.
However, the three runners stranded when next batter Shurman Marlin lined out to second baseman Nick Urbanus.
Pioniers then did open the score in the second at bat.
Glenn Bakker led off with a double, moved on a grounder by Stephen Henson, then scored on a wild pitch.
But that was to be the lone run for Pioniers, which left seven runners behind in the remainder of the game, including five in scoring position.
American lefthander Chris Pfau started and made his debut in a Pionier-uniform.
Last season, he pitched for Double Stars Heiloo, which played in the second highest league ('Overgangsklasse').
Pfau had a fine debut, as he allowed only one batter to reach base in the three innings he pitched.
With one out in the first inning, he gave up a single to Michael Duursma, but Pioniers then turned a double play.
Pfau then retired the side in the second and third inning.
Maickel Rietel then was the next pitcher to make his debut for Pioniers after having pitched for HCAW in the past season.
In the fourth inning, the righthander gave up five runs with two outs.
Rietel gave up a lead-off double to Koen Nooij, but then two flyouts followed.
Nooij then scored the tying run on a double by Gilmer Lampe.
That was the first of five consecutive basehits, including four extra-basehits.
Lampe scored the go-ahead run when Danny Rombley followed with a triple and he scored on a single by Remco Draijer.
Back-to-back RBI-doubles by Kenny Berkenbosch and Jesse Aussems then lifted the lead to 5-1.

Rietel was supported with a double play in the fifth inning, then gave up two unearned runs in the sixth.
Michael Duursma and Gilmer Lampe both reached on errors, then respectively scored with one out on a single by Linoy Croes and a sacrifice fly by Kenny Berkenbosch.
Amsterdam Pirates added four more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning off of Joran Berkenhout, who was added to the Pioniers-staff from its Rookie League-team for today's game.
Berkenhout faced eight batters, who all reached base.
He walked lead-off hitter Patrick Bok, then the bases got loaded when Max Clarijs and Koen Nooij singled.
The latter was then forced out on a grounder by Rashid Gerard, which also led to a run.
The bases were re-loaded when Michael Duursma walked.
Hereafter, the next three runs were scored when Gilmer Lampe walked, Danny Rombley was hit by a pitch and Linoy Croes also walked.
While there was only one out and the bases were still loaded, this ended the at bat, due to the pitch-count of Berkenhout and the fact that Pioniers had no other pitchers available.
While leading 1-0, Pioniers got two baserunners in the third inning off of new pitcher Robin Schel.
With two outs, the lefthander walked Quintin De Cuba and gave up a single to Kevin Dirksen, but a groundout ended the bat.
In the fifth, with Amsterdam now leading 5-1, Pioniers got three baserunners off of Daan Hendrix.
Newcomer Mark Smit (ex-DSS) led off with a single, but was forced out on a grounder by Zerzinho Croes, who then advanced to third base on a 2-out single by Quintin De Cuba.
But again, two runners were left behind.
In the top of the sixth inning, Brian Raap led off with a walk and Stephen Henson singled with one out, which led to runners on second and third base.
Both are also newcomers in Hoofddorp after having played for Mampaey The Hawks last year.
Raap and Henson were left behind, as strikeout and groundout followed.
Tom de Blok then pitched the last two innings for Pirates.
He retired the side in the seventh, then gave up a lead-off double to Kevin Dirksen in the eighth, but stranded on second base.
