Santa Maria Pirates vs. Curaçao Neptunus
In today's game, only one run was earned.
Neptunus committed three errors and Santa Maria Pirates made two, which for both teams led to two unearned runs.
Neptunus outhit the Curaçao-champion 7-5 with three players accounting for six hits, as Dwayne Kemp, Gianison Boekhoudt and Chrisitan Diaz each had two basehits.
Neptunus was held scoreless in the first two innings, but then opened the score in the third at bat.
With two outs, Shaldimar Daantji reached second base when his hit into the outfield was missed.
He then scored on a following single by Dwayne Kemp.
Neptunus added two runs in the fourth.
Lead-off hitter Raily Legito reached on an error, then the bases got loaded when Gianison Boekhoudt singled and Dashenko Ricardo walked.
Christian Diaz followed with a runscoring single and the next run was scored when Urving Kemp walked.
And so, the bases were still loaded with no outs, but Neptunus failed to take more distance, as the next three batters were retired.
Orlando Yntema made his first pitching appearance for Neptunus and started very well.
He gave up a lead-off single in the first inning, but the Neptunian defense then turned a double play.
The righthander retired the side in the next two innings.
With Neptunus leading 3-0, he gave up a run in the fourth inning.
With two outs, a throwing error led to a runner on second base and a following double then led to the run.
Berry van Driel took over the pitching in the fifth.
He gave up a lead-off single, saw the runner advance on an outfield-error, but he was eliminated on second base.
In the sixth, Santa Maria came very close to tying the score.
With one out, a batter reached third base on an outfield-error, then scored on a following grounder.
Van Driel was then replaced by closer Bayron Cornelisse, who was greeted with a double.
The runner moved on a wild pitch, but then stranded when a flyout ended the at bat.
In the seventh, Cornelisse gave up a 2-out single, but then closed with a strikeout to end the game and earn a save.
