Kinheim adds two players to roster
Nederlands
HAARLEM (Neth.) -
Kinheim has added two new players to its big league-roster, righthanded pitcher Luis Figuera Roman and outfielder Julio Hernandez.
The two already played for the Haarlem-squad briefly on the second day of the In Memoriam Charles Urbanus, Sr. Tournament in Bussum during the exhibition season.
It was then reported that the two were having a try-out with the team.
In the following week, it was reported that they practiced with the team of Vaessen Pioniers, but now they have joined Kinheim, which was confirmed on Tuesday-evening.
The two were in Bussum last Sunday where Kinheim closed its 3-game series against HCAW.
They were not in uniform then, as they were not eligile to play yet.
Since then, the paperwork was done to add them to the roster, which has yet to be approved.
For that reason, it is not clear yet whether they will be eligible to play already in the upcoming series against Curaçao Neptunus, which opens Thursday-evening in Rotterdam.
In the past few seasons, Venezuelan righthander Luis Figuera Roman and Aruban outfielder Julio Hernandez both played for Marlboro Red Machine, with whom they won the Aruban championship last year in the Aruban Dobbel A League.
In the deciding championship-game against Atro Concrete Indians, Figuera was the winning pitcher and Hernandez batted 2-for-4.
Figuera pitched professionally for three seasons in the organisation of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In 2008-2010, he played for its Rookie League-team, which was based in Venezuela.
On March 17, Figuera was the starting pitcher for Red Machine in an exhibition game against Curaçao Neptunus, which then stayed a week on Curaçao.
In that game, Hernandez collected two basehits.
Kinheim's Head Coach Mike Crouwel announced that when he is eligible to play, he plans to start with Figuera on Thursday-evening in the opening game of the 3-game series against Curaçao Neptunus.
In the team's first series against HCAW, righthander Tom Stuifbergen started the opener for Kinheim, but he is currently recovering from a minor injury in his right knee.
As of now, he is slated to start next Sunday's game in Haarlem, but that will be confirmed later.
