BOLOGNA (Italy) -
The sixth game of the best-of-seven Italian Baseball Series had to be cancelled on Saturday-evening (August 20) due to weather and field conditions.
Last Wednesday-evening, Pirati dei Rimini won 8-2 against UnipolSai Fortitudo Bologna in Game Five to force a sixth game.
Bologna leads the Series, 3-2.
The Series opened a week ago in Bologna and moved to Rimini with an 1-1 score.
In Rimini, Bologna won two of the three games played there.
Tonight's game has been moved to Sunday-evening.
When a seventh game is needed, it will be played on Monday-evening.
It was reported that a thunderstorm hit the Bologna-area around 6 PM, 2 1/2 hours before the start of the game.
As it rained for about 40 minutes, the field at Stadio Gianni Falchi was blanked.
It was an intense storm, as besides making the field unplayable, there was also some damage to the press/scorebox, as well as the batter's eye in centerfield.
It became clear that it was impossible to get the field playable again around 10 PM, which is the time-limit to start a game, according to the rules in Italian baseball.
With that, the umpiring crew cancelled the game.
