Vaessen Pioniers vs. De Glaskoning Twins
In the first five innings, both teams got five baserunners, but only Twins was able to score.
In the final four innings, Pioniers was the better team and reached base frequently, while Twins got into scoring position only one more time, resulting in its second run.
But that at time, the team trailed 4-1.
Pioniers-starter Lars Huijer retired the side in the first and third inning.
He was supported with a double play in the second inning.
In the fourth, he walked lead-off hitter Shurty Tremus, but he was caught stealing moments later.
In the fifth, the righthander gave up a run that gave Twins the lead.
Jeffrey Arends led off with a double and moved on a following single by Berry van Donselaar.
With one out, the latter was forced out on a grounder by Anthony Vrolijk, but that enabled Arends to score.
Pioniers faced Australian righthander Justin Erasmus, who retired the side in the first.
In the second, he walked Kevin Dirksen and gave up a single to Quintin De Cuba.
Hereafter, Erasmus turned a double play after catching a bunt by Austin Weymouth.
In the third, Erasmus walked Mark Smit and Stephen Henson, but both were caught stealing.
Pioniers then left two runners in the fourth inning and was retired in order in the fifth, but then rallied for four runs with two outs in the sixth off of Erasmus, who made it very difficult for himself.
Stephen Henson led off with a single, then Erasmus committed a fielding error on a sacrifice bunt by Zerzinho Croes.
The two moved on a sacrifice bunt by Mervin Gario.
With two outs, a wild pitch enabled Henson to score the tying run.
Hereafter, Erasmus walked Quintin De Cuba, Austin Weymouth and Shurman Marlin, which gave Pioniers a 2-1 lead and loaded the bases.
Erasmus, who walked seven batters tonight, was relieved by Matthew Latta, but the Belgian was greeted with a 2-run single by Glenn Bakker, that made it 4-1.
Latta hit next batter Mark Smit with a pitch, but Pioniers then stranded three runners when a flyout followed.
The four runs were enough, as Twins had only one run left.
That was scored in the ninth inning off of Sedley Karel.
He took over from Maickel Rietel, who had pitched the eighth inning.
In the ninth, Karel walked Jarreau Martina, who stole second base, then moved to third when a throwing error followed.
Karel struckout the next two batters, but then gave up an RBI-single to Bob van der Meer.
A grounder ended the inning and the game.
