London Mets vs. Borgerhout Squirrels
In the late afternoon-game today, Borgerhout Squirrels broke a 2-2 tie with a 7-run rally in the third inning, then added six runs in the fourth at bat.
Opponent London Mets then scored four runs in its fourth at bat to make it a 15-6 score, then added two runs in the seventh.
Borgerhout then put the game out of reach by scoring nine runs in the top of the eighth, resulting in a big 24-8 victory.
The Belgian squad collected 19 basehits, including four by Wesley Janssens and Steven De Lannoy.
All nine players in the Belgian line-up scored at least one run, led by Timen Van Geel, who scored four.
Eight of the nine players collected at least one basehit.
London also had a productive game with 14 basehits with six players hitting two of them.
With the score at 2-2, Borgerhout scored seven runs on seven hits in the third at bat.
Alexis Marquez led off with a bunt-single, stole second base, then gave Borgerhout a renewed lead by scoring on a following double by Joannes Ochoa Blanco.
Later in the at bat, Rob Lewis delivered a 2-run double.
A 6-run rally followed in the fourth inning on only two basehits, which were runscoring singles by Janssens and De Lannoy.
Other runs in the at bat were scored on a wild pitch, sacrifice fly, basesloaded walk and an error.
London got four runs back in its fourth at bat on five basehits, highlighted by a runscoring triple by Zach Stroman and RBI-doubles by Jamie Dix and Martin Tucker.
In the seventh, London narrowed the deficit to 15-8 by scoring two runs on an error and a single by Stroman.
But the team also left three runners behind.
In a long top of the eighth inning, Borgerhout rallied for nine runs on six basehits.
Rob Lewis and Kevin Vervloet contributed with 2-run singles, while Steven De Lannoy singled in one run.
A basesloaded walk for Sam Boermans also brought in a run.
Two runs were scored on an error, while another one was recorded on a passed ball.
