Draci Brno remains unbeaten in Federations Cup-tournament

BRNO (Czech Rep.) - After winning only 2-1 on Wednesday against Deurne Spartans, host Draci Brno registered a comfortable 20-2 victory on Thursday-evening (June 23) against Sölvesborg Firehawks from Sweden.

With the win, the Czechs remained unbeaten to become, as expected, the leading contender to reach the all-deciding final of the Federations Cup-tournament.

Day 3 of the event began with a 10-0 win of Apollo Bratislava (Slovakia) against Moskvich (Russia).
In the afternoon, Deurne Spartans (Belgium) won 10-6 against Buffaloes Blagoevgrad (Bulgaria).

Apollo Bratislava vs. Moskvich
In this game, Bratislava collected nine basehits, including three by catcher Anthony Barreto. Designated hitter Jakub Horaček batted in four runs.

Two Slovak pitchers gave up only three basehits to the Russian opponent.

Bratislava opened the score with one run in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Richard Gottschall reached second base on an error. With two outs, he stole third base, then scored on a throwing error.

The Slovaks then added a run in the second inning, two more in the fifth and another one in the sixth to lift the lead to 5-0.

Three runs were scored in the seventh. Bratislava got the bases loaded quickly. Richard Jarosik led off with a walk (and stole second and third base). With one out, Richard Gottschall and Alexander Vaclavik also walked. The three then scored on a baseclearing double by Jakub Horaček.

Bratistava reached the 10-run difference in the eighth when two batters walked with the bases loaded.




Deurne Spartans vs. Buffaloes Blagoevgrad
Deurne trailed 3-0 halfway the second inning, then scored four runs, but saw Blagoevgrad come alongside moments later. The Belgians then decided the game by scoring three runs in the third at bat.

Jason Jie-Sam-Foek had three basehits, including a double and triple, and scored three runs for Deurne.

In the first inning, Blagoevgrad left three runners behind and Deurne stranded two. The Bulgarians then scored three runs in the top of the second inning, thanks to singles by Bristo Dundalov and Krum Temelkov and in between a force play-grounder by Petar Petrov.

Deurne answered with four runs in its second at bat, highlighted by a 2-run single by Morris De Vriendt and a 2-run triple by Riugino Jonis that put the Belgians ahead. However, the Buffaloes came alongside in the top of the third inning on a single by Alexander Blagoev.

In the bottom of the third inning, Deurne scored three runs to take a 7-4 lead. A single by Nick De Vriendt and 2-run double by Leonel Reina Viant accounted for the runs.

After the middle innings remained scoreless, Deurne added three runs from the seventh inning on, while Blagoevgrad scored two more in the ninth.




Sölvesborg Firehawks vs. Draci Brno
In the evening, Draci Brno won big with a 20-2 score in seven innings against Sölvesborg Firehawks, scoring 12 runs in the top of the seventh inning.

The Czechs collected 22 basehits, including four by Jakub Hajtmar and Jason Jarvis. Martin Schneider, who hit two triples, batted in six runs and scored three. Adam Hajtmar scored five runs for Brno.

The Swedes registered only three hits off of two pitchers, but were leading 2-1 after two innings!

Both teams scored once in the first inning, then Martin Fahlin scored on an error in the second to make it 2-1 in favor of Sölvesborg.

Brno took the lead by scoring three runs in the top of the third inning. The team took more distance by scoring two runs in the fourth and sixth at bat.

In the top of the seventh, the Czechs rallied for 12 runs on ten basehits. There were ten basehits in the inning, including a 2-run double by Arnošt Dubový and 2-run singles by Jakub Hajtmar and Martin Schneider.
