Sant Boi second finalist in Spain

SANT BOI DE LLOBREGAT (Spain) - Host Sant Boi became the second finalist in the Federations Cup Qualifier in Spain after winning with a big 25-5 score on Thursday-evening (June 23) against Southampton Mustangs. The British squad had reached the final on Wednesday, based on its victories and upcoming games. In case of a tie (and a loss today), the head-to-head results were in their favor.

Day 4 of the tournament began with an 8-7 win by Barons Wrocław (Poland) against Diving Ducks (Austria).
In the afternoon, Therwil Flyers (Switzerland) won big vs. Ishido Botosani (Romania) with a 15-5 score.

Barons Wrocław vs. Diving Ducks
In today's first game, Barons Wrocław trailed 6-2 after four innings against Diving Ducks. The Polish team then rallied four runs in the bottom of the fifth and went on to win 8-7.

Diving Ducks outhit the Barons, 15-11. Michael Vykoukal recorded four basehits for the Austrian squad and scored three runs.

Trailing 6-2, the Barons scored four runs on only two basehits in the fifth at bat. With the bases loaded, a run was scored when Marcin Musiałek walked. Hereafter, a force play-grounder and grounder brought in the next two runs. A double by Pawel Łakomy then made it a 6-6 tie.

The Polish squad scored twice in the sixth to take an 8-6 lead, thanks to an error with the bases loaded and a single by Łukasz Nolbrzak.

A single by José Luis Ruiz brought in one run in the eighth for the Austrians, but they were left empty-handed.




Therwil Flyers vs. Ishido Botosani
Therwil Flyers trailed 3-1 after two innings, then scored four runs in the third and fourth at bat and went on to win 15-5 in seven innings.

Michael Stowers had three basehits (including two doubles), scored three runs and batted in three for the Flyers.

Botosani scored twice in the first inning, thanks to a 2-run single by George Sinoschi. The Romanians saw the Flyers score once in its first at bat, but added a run themselves in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead.

The Swiss squad then turned the game its way by scoring four runs in the bottom of the third inning on four basehits. Four more runs were added in the fourth at bat, highligted by a 2-run double by Stefan Koller.

Trailing 9-3, Botosani came back with two runs in the fifth on a basesloaded balk and a grounder.

The Flyers scored its next run in the sixth, then reached a 10-run difference by scoring five runs in the bottom of the seventh. The Romanian defense committed five errors in this at bat, while Michael Stowers batted in two runs with a double. A throwing error after a sacrifice fly ended the game, as it lifted the lead to 15-5.




Southampton Mustangs vs. Sant Boi
In the evening, Sant Boi recorded a huge 25-5 victory in six innings against Southampton Mustangs, scoring 14 runs in the top of the sixth inning. With the win, Sant Boi officially clinched a spot in the final in which it will meet the British squad again.

The Spanish team collected 16 basehits, including four by Jonathan Linares, who batted in four runs and scored three.

Sant Boi already had a 7-0 lead after two innings, but the lead was brought back to 8-5 after four innings. Sant Boi then added three runs in the fifth and rallied for fourteen runs in the sixth. In this at bat, the Spanish squad registered 11 basehits.
