L&D Amsterdam Pirates vs. DSS
After some showers of rain and hail in the morning, a lot of work was done to the playing field and the game was about to start on time at 2 PM.
But a brief rainshower then hit, resulting in a 14-minute delay.
It was a cold afternoon in Amsterdam, as it was only 5,6 degrees Celsius (42,1 Fahrenheit) when the game got underway.
However, the wind chill temperature was only 0,8 degrees Celsius (33,4 Fahrenheit)!
Amsterdam-starter Dennis Burgersdijk retired the side in the top of the first inning, then his teammates opened the score moments later in the home half.
DSS-starter Tim Halderman walked lead-off hitter Nick Urbanus.
He advanced on a grounder by Michael Duursma, then stole third base and scored when a throwing error followed.
DSS came alongside in the second at bat.
Ryan Miner led off with a single, moved on an error on a grounder by Seb Visser and a sacrifice bunt by Ruben Prins, then scored on a grounder by Sven van der Sanden.
Amsterdam Pirates re-took the lead in the bottom of the third inning.
Jesse Aussems led off with a bunt-single, but was forced out on a grounder by Nick Urbanus.
Next batter Michael Duursma walked, then Gilmer Lampe delivered a runscoring single.
Duursma advanced to third base and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Danny Rombley.

In the top of the fifth, DSS narrowed the deficit to 3-2, but that inning also offered a great defensive play.
With one out, Amsterdam second baseman Nick Urbanus made a great play, fielding the ball on the leftside of second base and getting it in time on first base to eliminated Lex Leijenaar.
Hereafter, Joffrey Heus walked, then the bases got loaded when Melvin Perdue singled and Menno Lenting also walked.
Koen Halderman followed with a runscoring single, but Perdue, who also tried to score, was eliminated at the plate, ending the inning.
Pirates immediately took more distance in its fifth at bat.
With one out, Michael Duursma wallked and stole second base, then scored on a 2-out single by Danny Rombley.
Remco Draijer followed with a triple down the rightfield-line to make it a 4-2 score.
In the top of the seventh inning, the spectators were treated with another great defensive play.
On a hard and difficult grounder from (again) Lex Leijenaar, second baseman Nick Urbanus fielded the ball and once more got the ball in time to first base.
In the bottom of the seventh, Urbanus scored the next run for Pirates off of Gijs Timmer, who had come on in th sixth.
He led off with a walk, advanced on a grounder by Michael Duursma and scored on a single by Gilmer Lampe.
Hereafter, it was DSS second baseman Menno Lenting, who made a nice defensive play on a grounder by Danny Rombley to force out Lampe at second base.
Amsterdam rallied for four more runs in the eighth inning off of new pitcher Mark van Deursen.
Linoy Croes led off with a double, then Kenny Berkenbosch walked.
Patrick Bok followed with an RBI-single.
Moments later, Berkenbosch scored on a passed ball and with one out, the next run was scored on a triple by Koen Nooij.
He scored the fourth run in the inning on a following sacrifice fly by Nick Urbanus to lift the lead to 10-2.
With that, Urbanus not only made two great defensive plays, he also accounted for four runs, as he scored three and batted in one.
