Draci Brno wins Federations Cup
Nederlands

BRNO (Czech Rep.) - Draci Brno is the first winner of the new Federations Cup-tournament. Playing in front of a home crowd, the Czechs shutout surprise finalist Sölvesborg Firehawks (Sweden) on Sunday (June 26) with 7-0 to win the Cup.

With that, the Czech spot promoted to the CEB Cup, which played last month. In that tournament, the Czech Republic will be represented next year, taking the place of Austria, which relegated to the Federations Cup.

In the final standings, Apollo Bratislava and Moskvich ended in fifth and sixth place, meaning the Slovak and Russian spot relegated to a Federations Cup Qualifier. Their spots in the Federations Cup will be taken by the winners of the Qualifying Tournaments, which were played this week in Sant Boi (Spain) and London (England). In Spain, host Sant Boi won the event on Saturday. The final of the tournament in London also is played today.

The three individual awards also went to players of Brno.
Adam Hajtmar was named Most Valuable Player of the event, while Jason Jarvis was Best Pitcher. Martin Schneider was the Best Hitter with a .667 batting average.
