HCAW closes home-season with victory
Nederlands
BUSSUM (Neth.) -
In its final home game of the season, HCAW won 8-4 against De Glaskoning Twins on Saturday (August 27).
HCAW broke an 1-1 tie in the fifth inning by scoring two runs when Jelle Blaauw hit a 2-run homerun with one out.
HCAW then took more distance in the eighth inning with a 5-run rally on three basehits, including a 2-run double by Boyd Tuhumury.
But there also were four walks, two wild pitches and a passed ball in this at bat.
Trailing 8-1, Twins scored three runs with two outs in the top of the ninth inning on three hits off of new pitcher Jim Ploeger.
Two of the runs scored on a wild pitch.
Some two hours before the start of the game, there was an unexpected change in the umpiring assignments.
Roy van de Wateringen was to be the 3B Umpire, but his assignment was switched to Rotterdam for the game between Curaçao Neptunus and L&D Amsterdam Pirates.
There, he took over for Jos van Eijsden, who initially was to be 3B Umpire.
However, Van Eijsden encountered a problem while traveling to Rotterdam by train, as it stopped midway and therefore could not be in time in Rotterdam.
So, Van de Wateringen changed directions and instead of traveling to Bussum, he went to Rotterdam.
That left the game in Bussum with a 2-man crew.
