HOOFDDORP (Neth.) -
Vaessen Pioniers registered a big 9-1 victory against Kinheim on Saturday (Augus 27) in the second game of their 3-game series.
With this, Pioniers not only won its second game of the series, it also moved into a tie with L&D Amsterdam Pirates for second place in the Play-Offs.
Amsterdam needs one victory, or a loss by Pioniers, to become the second team to qualify for the Holland Series.
Last Thursday, Curaçao Neptunus reached the Championship Final first by winning its first game against Amsterdam.
In case Pioniers win and Pirates also ends up losing on Sunday, Pioniers will become the second finalist.
In case both Pirates and Pioniers lose on Sunday, Pirates will advance based on the head-to-head results during the Play-Offs against Pioniers (2-1).
When both teams win on Sunday, Pirates also will reach the Final.
Pioniers collected 12 basehits off of three pitchers, including three by Zerzinho Croes, who scored twice and batted in one run.
All nine players in the starting line-up had at least one basehit.
Pioniers opened the score with two runs in the second inning.
Kinheim cut the deficit in half in the top of the fifth, but Pioniers answered with two runs in its fifth at bat on a 2-out, 2-run double by Kevin Dirksen.
The home team then added five more runs in the seventh and eighth inning combined.
Quintin De Cuba contributed with a 2-run single in the seventh.
