L&D Amsterdam Pirates vs. UVV
It was another cold evening with a windchill of 3,9 degrees Celsius (39 Fahrenheit) in the Amsterdam/Haarlem-area and 4,9 (40,8 F) in the Rotterdam/Dordrecht-area.
But despite that, and some rain earlier in the day and on previous days, all games could be played as scheduled.
Both teams were productive on the bases in the first two innings, but that didn't result in runs.
In the top of the first inning, Jamie Verheyleweghen singled for UVV off of Kevin Heijstek, but was caught stealing.
Hereafter, Tim Veraghtert walked and was left behind.
In the second at bat, Sergino Martis led off with a single, but then a double play followed.
Next batter Norbert Jongerius singled, but also stranded.
Kevin Heijstek then retired the side in the next three innings.
In the last five UVV-at bats, the righthander allowed only two more batters to reach base, who also would become the lone UVV-runners to get into scoring position.
After giving up the single to Jongerius, he retired ten batters in a row.
In the sixth, with UVV trailing 7-0, he gave up a lead-off double to Dennis Ribbens, who advanced on an one-out single by Jamie Verheyleweghen.
The latter moved to second base on a passed ball, but they stranded as the next two batters were eliminated.
For Amsterdam, Gilmer Lampe doubled with two outs in the first inning off of Timo van Ancum, but stranded.
In the second at bat, Remco Draijer led off with a walk, but was picked off.
Next batter Patrick Bok also walked, but this time, the UVV-defense turned a double play.

Pirates then opened the score with three runs in the third inning.
With one out, Linoy Croes singled, then the bases got loaded when Nick Urbanus and Michael Duursma both walked.
Gilmer Lampe followed with a 2-run single, then the bases were re-loaded when Danny Rombley also walked.
With two outs, Van Ancum issued his fourth walk in this inning (and sixth in total) to Patrick Bok, which led to another run.
Three runners were left behind when a flyout ended the at bat.
Amsterdam added a run in the fourth when Jesse Aussems led off with a double and later scored on a passed ball.
Three more runs followed in the fifth off of new pitcher José Moreno.
Danny Rombley and Remco Draijer led off with singles and respectively scored on a single by Rashid Gerard and a force play-grounder by Jesse Aussems.
The latter scored the third run in the at bat on a single by Nick Urbanus.
In the sixth inning, Amsterdam reached the 10-run difference off of Thijs Steenwijk.
He hit lead-off hitter Koen Nooij, then walked Remco Draijer and gave up a single to Patrick Bok that loaded the bases.
A grounder by Rashid Gerard, sacrifice fly by Jesse Aussems and pinch-hit single by Max Clarijs lifted the lead to 10-0.
And when you score a lot of runs, you also reach base a lot and thus three runners were left behind for the third time in this game by the home team.
In the top of the seventh inning, Kevin Heijstek completed the game and retired the side.
That included two strikeouts to give him seven in total for the night.
He gave up only five basehits in Amsterdam's seventh consecutive victory.
