De Glaskoning Twins vs. DSS
It was another cold evening with a windchill of 3,9 degrees Celsius (39 Fahrenheit) in the Amsterdam/Haarlem-area and 4,9 (40,8 F) in the Rotterdam/Dordrecht-area.
But despite that, and some rain earlier in the day and on previous days, all games could be played as scheduled.
DSS appeared to open the score in the top of the first inning, as it got its first three batters on base off of Australian righthander Justin Erasmus.
He walked lead-off hitter Melvin Perdue, then made a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt by Menno Lenting, then also walked Koen Halderman.
But they all were left behind, as a strikeout and two flyouts followed.
Twins stranded a runner on third base in its first at bat off of Donny Breek.
Jarreau Martina led off with a walk and stole second and third base, but he stranded.
Twins then opened the score in the third inning.
Bart Janssen led off with a walk and Jarreau Martina reached on a bunt-single.
With one out, they scored when Adrian Anthony homered.
The bases then got loaded when Breek walked Jeffrey Arends, Berry van Donselaar and Bob van der Meer.
A single by Anthony Vrolijk and sacrifice fly by Mick Molenaar lifted the lead to 5-0.
The rookie pitcher was clearly in problems, but the inning then finally ended when Van der Meer was caught stealing at third base.
Twins had another big rally in the sixth inning, scoring four runs off of Gijs Timmer, who had taken over for Breek in the fourth inning.
The bases got loaded when Bart Janssen walked, Jarreau Martina reached on an error and Shurty Tremus also walked.
With one out, a single by Jeffrey Arends brought in a run, then Berry van Donselaar added a 2-run single.
Arends later scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-0.
DSS got into scoring position again in the fourth and fifth inning off of Erasmus.
But in both innings, the Haarlem-squad left runners on first and second base.
In the seventh inning, Ben Van Nuffel took over for Erasmus, who had struckout seven batters and gave up only three hits, but also walked five.
The Belgian righthander got the bases loaded when Joffrey Heus and Melvin Perdue both walked and Menno Lenting singled.
But for the second time, DSS left three runners behind, as three flyouts followed.
Twins reached the 10-run difference in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Lead-off hitter Bart Hanegraaff reached on a throwing error, then scored on a double by Jeffrey Arends to end the game.
