HCAW vs. DSS
DSS took an early 3-0 lead in the second inning on five consecutive basehits off of starter Kaj Timmermans.
With one out, Ryan Miner singled, stole second base and advanced when Seb Visser also singled.
The first run was then scored when rookie Damian Melis connected for a runscoring single.
Hereafter, Sven van de Sanden followed with a runscoring ground-rule double and Tommy van de Sanden added an RBI-single to lift the lead to 3-0.
The inning ended when Joffrey Heus flied out to rightfield and resulted in a double play.
DSS had taken a 3-0 lead, but that was not enough.
DSS was retired in order in the next two innings, then saw HCAW score twice in the bottom of the fourth inning.
DSS-starter Mike Groen retired the first nine batters he faced, but then gave up two unearned runs in the fourth.
Lead-off hitter Roelie Henrique reached second base on a throwing error, then advanced on a grounder by Boyd Tuhumury.
Vince Rooi then walked and a wild pitch led to the first run.
Hereafter, Kevin Nieveld doubled to make it a 3-2 score.
DSS got runners on second and third base in the top of the fifth inning.
Sven van de Sanden led off with a double, then his brother Tommy van de Sanden walked.
The two moved on a sacrifice bunt by Joffrey Heus.
Kaj Timmermans followed with a strikeout, then saw first baseman Kevin Weijgertse catch a line drive by Koen Halderman to end this scoring threat.
HCAW then came alongside in its fifth at bat.
Julian Goins led off with an infield-hit and stole second base, then moved to third base on a sac-bunt by Gianni Frolijk.
Goins then scored the tying run on a following single by Marciano Philippi.
Roelie Henrique added a double, but HCAW left runners on second and third base when Vince Rooi flied out.
DSS re-took the lead in the top of the seventh inning when Sven van de Sanden homered with one out.
The new lead was shortlived, as HCAW tied the score again in the eighth inning.
Vince Rooi led off with a single off of Max Ploegstra, who had taken over the pitching for DSS in the previous inning.
Rooi advanced when a throwing error followed trying to force him out on a bunt by Rossini Frolijk.
With runners on first and second base, DSS-centerfielder Melvin Perdue made a great catch on a fly by Kevin Nieveld, but both runners were able to advance to the next base.
When Perdue wouldn't have catch the ball, it would surely have rolled to the fence for a possible double and might have scored two runs.
To create a force play, Kevin Weijgertse was walked intentionally to load the bases.
That led to a pitching change, as Kevin Geestman took over, while Raoell Kortstam was inserted as pinch-runner for Frolijk.
The force play-situation worked, but couldn't avoid a run.
Weijgertse was forced out on second base on a grounder by Julian Goins, but Rooi scored the tying run, which was the third unearned run given up by the DSS-pitching.
A flyout ended the at bat, meaning HCAW left two runners behind.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, HCAW came close to deciding the game.
With two outs, Boyd Tuhumury singled and stole second base.
Vince Rooi was then walked intentionally, but a double-steal followed to put the runners on second and third base.
However, they stranded there, as Geestman closed with a strikeout, which meant that the game went into extra innings.
In the top of the tenth inning, Tommy van de Sanden (2nd base) and Joffrey Heus (1st base) were the tie-break runners for DSS.
With one out, Koen Halderman singled.
Van de Sanden scored, but Heus was elimimated after overrunning third base.
Halderman advanced to second base on the throw, then tried to score when next batter Melvin Perdue singled, but he was eliminated at the plate on a throw by leftfielder Kevin Nieveld.
In the bottom of the tenth inning, HCAW got the bases loaded, but three batters were called out on strikes, which led to some arguments regarding the strike-zone of veteran umpire Fred van Groningen Schinkel.
Tie-break runners Vince Rooi (2nd base) and Raoell Kortstam (1st base) advanced with one out when Kevin Weijgertse was hit by a pitch.
But hereafter, Geestman struckout Julian Goins and pinch-hitter Levine Gabriëls to end the game.
