Neptunus wins make-up game and first half of season
Nederlands
ROTTERDAM (Neth.) -
Curaçao Neptunus won 6-1 against L&D Amsterdam Pirates on Tuesday-evening (June 28) in a make-up game.
The game was the final one of the first half of the regular season, which ended for all other teams on May 29.
Both teams already had secured a spot in the Play-Offs in previous games.
With the win, Neptunus finished in first place of the first half, while Amsterdam Pirates finished in second place.
The game initially was scheduled for Friday, May 27, but then was halted by the umpiring crew in the bottom of the fourth inning with Neptunus hitting when a bench-clearing brawl escalated.
It was decided that the game had to be replayed in its entirety and was re-scheduled initially for last Tuesday (June 14) to be played in Rotterdam.
However, there was some heavy rain through the morning and the early afternoon a week ago, which then made the field of the Rotterdam-stadium unplayable.
The game was then re-scheduled for last Tuesday (June 21), but again weather conditions made playing impossible.
Neptunus opened the score tonight in the second inning after a pick-off ended in an error with two outs, followed by a runscoring single by Steven Wharwood.
The Rotterdam-squad then added runs in the third and fifth at bat on singles by Gianison Boekhoudt and Christian Diaz.
Neptunus then took more distance by adding three runs in the seventh inning.
Amsterdam, which was outhit 14-7, scored its lone run in the eighth inning.
