OOSTERHOUT (Neth.) -
De Glaskoning Twins closed its first season back on the highest level with a 9-0 shutout-victory against HCAW on Sunday (August 28).
With the win, Twins finished in second place in the Play-Downs, which means a sixth place overall.
HCAW last Thursday secured itself of first place in the Play-Downs (and thus a fifth overall) by winning the opener of the 3-game series.
Today's game probably was the last one for HCAW led by Head Coach Roy Berrevoets, who had been the first baseman of the team in the eighties and nineties.
At the end of February of this year, one week before the start of the exhibition season, Berrevoets was named Head Coach, but it became clear almost from the beginning that he would return into uniform for only one season.
Whether Berrevoets will continue as Head Coach or not has not yet been officially confirmed by the club.
Twins decided today's game early, scoring eight runs it the first three innings off of starter Kaj Timmermans.
Five basehits, including a double by Jeffrey Arends, contributed to four runs in the first inning.
In the second, a run was added on a double by Shurty Tremus.
Three more runs were then scored in the third on three hits and two errors.
Twins scored its last run of the season in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by Stijn Janssens.
HCAW was limited to only five basehits and got into scoring position only three times.
In the last four innings, HCAW used four position players as pitcher, while pitchers Ian Delemarre (3rd base/1st base) and Tim Niekerk(Centerfield) were used defensively.
Delemarre struckout and had a sacrifice bunt, while Niekerk delivered a lead-off infield-hit in the seventh inning.
In its last game of the season, Twins also used players on other positions.
Rookie-pitcher Mic van de Ven played five innings in leftfield, while pitcher Floris Timmer played the final inning in rightfield.
Twins used 21 players in this game.
