HCAW wins against Twins in ninth inning
Nederlands

BUSSUM (Neth.) - HCAW registered another one-run difference victory on Saturday (July 30) in its second game of a 3-game series against De Glaskoning Twins. After winning 3-2 on Thursday, the Bussum-squad today won 4-3 after having failed to hold onto a 3-0 lead.

With the loss, Twins was eliminated for the Play-Offs, while HCAW still has a chance of reaching the top-4. HCAW can end up in a tie for fourth place with Kinheim, but then has to win its remaining four games, while Kinheim has to remain empty-handed in its next four match-ups. In the head-to-head series in the second half between the two teams, HCAW has won two of the three games. The head-to-head results are a tie-breaker in case of a tie between two (or more) teams. However, as mentioned in Thursday's recap, there is another ruling when two teams are tied for a relegation-spot. And of course, a team that plays in the Play-Downs can end up relegating.

There are two more options. One of them, is a 3-way tie is also possible between Kinheim, HCAW and L&D Amsterdam Pirates. In the other one, which is an interesting one, Kinheim and HCAW can end up in a tie for third place, while Pirates drops to fifth place. As Pirates already has qualified for the Play-Offs in the first half, the two possible tie-break rules will come in effect again, as only one of the two other teams will complete the Play-Offs, while the other one will play in the Play-Downs.

The first five innings of the game remained scoreless, then HCAW rallied for three runs in the sixth, highlighted by a 2-run double by Rossini Frolijk. Before scoring, HCAW was held hitless in the first five innings by Japanese righthander Keiji Uezono, who struckout 13 batters in the eight innings he pitched and gave up only three hits.

Twins immediately reacted with a 3-run rally of its own in the seventh on a baseclearing, 3-run double by Christopher Ge that tied the score. In the first six innings, Twins was silenced by HCAW-starter Kaj Timmermans, who gave up only one basehit in the six innings he pitched.

With that, there was a double No-Hitter going on after four innings!

HCAW decided the game with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning. Rossini Frolijk then led off with a walk and his pinch-runner (and brother) Gianni Frolijk went on to score on a throwing error that followed a force play-grounder by pinch-hitter Rowan van Hoek.
