Nederlands

PHOENIX, Arizona (USA) - On Wednesday (March 30), catcher Sicnarf Loopstok was assigned to the team of the Cleveland Indians as additional Minor League-player for its road-game at the Los Angeles Dodgers. Loopstok was inserted during the game and with that made his debut playing for a Major League-team during Spring Training.

With the addition of Sicnarf Loopstok, twenty professionals with a Dutch passport have now been in Major League Spring Training so far this year.

At Camelback Ranch-Glendale in Phoenix, Loopstok entered the game in the bottom of the eighth inning as the new catcher for the Indians. In the same at bat, Shawn Zarraga was inserted by the Dodgers as pinch-hitter with one out. And so, we had two Arubans in near home plate, Zarraga hitting and Loopstok catching. A few days ago, there was a first 'Orange' pitching-catching combination, as Kenley Jansen, who is from Curaçao, threw one inning to Zarraga.

Zarraga delivered a single, but then was eliminated moments later when next batter Erick Mejia grounded into a double play.

Zarraga remained in the game as new catcher for the Dodgers and so, two Aruban catchers closed this game.

Loopstok got no at bat in this game.

The 22-year old Loopstok, who also is a first baseman, made his professional debut in 2013, playing in the Single-A team of the Indians.

Last year, Loopstok played for three Minor League-teams. He started with Lake County Captains in Single-A, where he played in 14 games. In May, he moved to Mahoning Valley Scrappers (Single-A Short Season) for a brief period and played in five games there. Loopstok was then assigned to the Lynchburg Hillcats (Single-A Advanced). There, he closed the season and played in 28 games, hitting .218. Overall, last year, he played in 47 games and batted .208 with 30 basehits, including nine doubles and five homeruns. In his third professional season, Loopstok scored 17 runs and batted in 19.
