Sponsors for & More News from Quick Amersfoort
Nederlands

AMERSFOORT (Neth.) - As mentioned earlier on this site, the baseball-team of Quick Amersfoort will be supported by a main-sponsor this season, but there was more news coming from Amersfoort in the past few weeks.

During its annual club-council meeting on February 16, the club announced the name of the new main sponsor for the baseball-team. After three years, the sponsor-contract with BioSilk had expired and the search for a new sponsor led to a very special action. The club set up a sponsor lottery, which enabled companies to purchase one or more lots. That resulted in Theo Meijer Sport, a sports school located in Leusden, becoming the new main sponsor of the team for coming season. This year, the team will play in the second highest division ('Overgangsklasse') as Theo Meijer Quick. The lottery also resulted in several sub-sponsors. A&A Topper.nl will be visible on the right sleeve of the shirt, while Ruitenbeek Projektafbouw BV will have a logo on the left sleeve. Besides that, all other companies that participated will have a banner at the baseball-field.

There was more sponsor-news, as the home complex of Quick Amersfoort, Sportpark 'Dorrestein', will be linked to a sponsor. To enlarge its name in the Amersfoort-area, as well as the so-called Randstad, XLLease, a lease-company based in Apeldoorn, has come to a partnership-agreement with the club. With that, starting this season, the baseball- and softball-complex will be named XLLease Park Dorrestein.

In the upcoming weekend, on Saturday, April 2, Quick Amersfoort will organize the sixth edition of its annual Keistad Tournament at its home site. Through last year, the event existed of a softball-tournament for both women and men. This year, for the first time, a baseball-tournament will be included.

Participating in the first edition of the baseball-tournament will be OVVO, Vennep Flyers, HCAW-3 and the second team of host Theo Meijer Quick Amersfoort.

The squad of Onze Gezellen from Haarlem will defend its title in the women softball tournament, which will have six participants and has an international flavor. Joining Onze Gezellen and host Quick Amersfoort will be Euro Stars, UVV and Caribe, while Royal Greys comes from Belgium.

Last year, the men softball team of Quick Amersfoort won its own tournament. This year, also participating are Storks and De Zuidvogels. Last year, Quick Amersfoort qualied for the Holland Series, but lost the best-of-three final for the Dutch Championship-title to reigning champion Hoofddorp Pioniers.

The club also announced last month that Serge Artsen, who played in the Dutch big league with the baseball-squad of Quick Amersfoort, and Debbie van der Kolk, are moving to the Caribbean island of Saint Martin.

Both started their baseball- and softball-career with the club from Amersfoort. Debbie was successful in youth teams and has won the annual Paul Berkel Trophy, the club-award for young talent. The short stop/catcher also played in the Netherlands Junior Team and played several seasons in the main softball-squad of the club, with whom she won the Championship-title in the Second Division in 2014.

After having started playing baseball at Quick, Serge Artsen initially went to Saint Martin at a young age and grew up there. He then returned to Amersfoort and became a solid player for the main baseball-squad, with whom he reached the Play-Offs in 1993. When Quick didn't play anymore at the highest level, Artsen played for Twins and Sparta, with whom he also played in the Dutch big league. But after a few years, he came back to Quick and played again for the baseball-squad, which then played at a lower level. Later, the outfielder went on to play in the men softball-team of the club. There, he also was successful, as he participated with Quick in two European Cup Tournaments. Last year, the team finished in first place in the B Pool of the First Division with a 16-1 record and one tie. With that, Quick qualified for the Play-Offs and went on to reach the Holland Series, but then lost to Hoofddorp Pioniers. In the last years, Artsen also was active as a coach and was a member of the Technincal Commission of the club.
