Kinheim has to wait longer to reach Play-Offs
Nederlands
AMSTERDAM (Neth.) -
Kinheim rallied for six runs in the second inning and outhit L&D Amsterdam Pirates 12-11 on Sunday-afternoon (July 31), but in the end was left empty-handed.
From the fourth inning on, Amsterdam came back into the game, trailed only 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth, then won 7-6 on a walk-off, 2-run double by Danny Rombley.
A win not only would have completed a 3-game sweep for Kinheim, it also would have secured the Haarlem-squad of a spot in the Play-Offs.
Now, they have to wait at least four days longer.
However, more is possible.
With one series remaining in the regular season, Kinheim can still end up in a tie for fourth place with HCAW.
In the first series of the second half of the season, HCAW opened by winning the series against Kinheim (2-1), which now can be decisive for the final ranking.
HCAW will close the regular season with a 3-game series against DSS, while Kinheim faces De Glaskoning Twins.
For Kinheim and HCAW to end in a tie, Kinheim has to lose its three games, while HCAW has to win their series.
In case, HCAW qualifies for the Play-Offs, it can create an unique situation in the final ranking of the Overall Standings, as Kinheim will then finish ahead of HCAW in fourth place with more points earned for a win, but then will be left emptyhanded, due to the results in the second half of the season.
In the second inning, Kinheim rallied for six runs.
Three of them were unearned, as the Amsterdam-defense committed two errors.
In the inning, Dudley Leonora led off with a double and scored.
He then added a 2-run single in his second at bat in the inning to lift the lead to 6-0.
In the remainder of the game, Kinheim got into scoring position only two more times, while Pirates turned two double plays.
Amsterdam scored five runs in the three middle innings to narrow the deficit to 6-5.
With one out in the bottom of the ninth and runners on second and third base, a force play was created by walking the next batter intentionally.
But hereafter, Danny Rombley connected for a walk-off, 2-run double that ended the game.
