Pioniers wins in ninth to complete sweep

HAARLEM (Neth.) -
A day after securing a spot in the Play-Offs, Vaessen Pioniers trailed, came alongside, then scored three runs in the ninth to win 5-2 and complete a 3-game sweep against DSS on Sunday (July 31).
Today, DSS opened the score with two runs in the bottom of the third inning on a double by Melvin Perdue and a squeeze by Tino van Erk.
In the next inning, Pioniers came alongside thanks to a 2-run double by Brian Raap.
Both teams turned a double play in the fifth inning.
In the next at bats, both teams left a runner in scoring position, then Pioniers came close to a run in the eighth, but went on to strand runners on second and third base.
After DSS left another runner on second base in the bottom of the eighth, Pioniers struck with three runs in the top of the ninth, highlighted by a 2-run double with two outs by Zerzinho Croes.
In the bottom of the ninth, Sedley Karel closed for Pioniers.
He walked the first two batters, but then retired the next three to earn his league-leading 11th save of the season.
