Neptunus scored only two runs tonight, but that was enough, as the small lead never came into jeopardy.
Four UVV-pitchers walk ten batters.
Neptunus got its first two batters on base in the bottom of the first inning off of starting pitcher Gilian van Lith, but was unable to open the score.
Stijn van der Meer led off with a single and Benjamin Dille followed with a bunt-single.
With one out, Dwayne Kemp hit the ball into leftfield, where it appeared to be catchable.
However, leftfielder Rick Kuipers barely missed catching the ball and so, the runners had to advance.
Van der Meer ended up too late at third base and was forced out there, as Kuipers threw the ball to third baseman Mike Bazuin.
A grounder then ended the at bat.
In the third, Neptunus again got its first two batters on base and that again happened to be Van der Meer and Dille.
This time, they walked.
But with one out, a double play ended the inning.
Neptunus then scored what would be the only two runs in the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Christian Diaz led off with a walk and Daniel Fernandes singled.
Moments later, Diaz was eliminated after a pick-off, which enabled Fernandes to reach second base.
With first base open, it was opted to walk Gregory Muller intentionally, but as has happened before in several games, runs were scored thereafter.
Neptunus got the bases loaded when next batter Jochem Koedijk was hit by a pitch, then Shaldimar Daantji followed with a single that brought in two runners.
The inning ended when a line drive by Stijn van der Meer was turned into a double play.
In the remainder of the game, Neptunus was unable to take more distance, despite getting several baserunners and some of them in scoring position.
Neptunus got a chance to do some more scoring in the fifth inning, but then left three runners behind.
Benjamin Dille led off with a single, then Christian Diaz walked with two outs, which led to a pitching change.
Jerremyh Angela took over, a double-steal followed and the bases got loaded when Daniel Fernandes walked.
But the three runners stranded when a grounder by Gregory Muller closed the at bat.
In the sixth inning, four consecutive Neptunian batters reached base.
However, the last three hit force play-grounders, resulting in a force out on second base.
Three consecutive force play-grounders doesn't happen that often.
In the seventh, new pitcher José Moreno got two flyouts, but then gave up a triple to Christian Diaz.
He then walked Daniel Fernandes, but he was forced out moments later.
In the eighth, Neptunus got its final runner in scoring position off of new pitcher Jonah Van Bemmelen.
Jochem Koedijk led off with a walk and stole second base, but was left behind.
UVV was unable to get into scoring position in the first five innings off of starter Kevin Kelly.
Hereafter, four relievers closed the game for Neptunus.
In the second inning, Julian Rip led off for UVV with a single.
Kelly struckout two of the next three hitters and in between a foul-out accounted for the second out.
In the third, Rick Kuipers singled with one out, but was caught stealing.
Kelly then retired the side in the fourth and fifth at bat.
In the sixth, Elton Koeiman pitched for Neptunus.
With one out, he saw Rick Kuipers reach on an error, but he again was eliminated on the basepaths.
This time, he was forced out on second base on a bunt by Tijmen Takke.
After Loek van Mil had retired the side in the seventh, Misja Harcksen pitched the eighth.
He walked Cecil Comenencia with two outs, but then closed with a strikeout.
Also in the eighth, UVV's third baseman Mike Bazuin had to leave the game.
With one out, he grounded the ball to third baseman Ruar Verkerk.
The throw to first base was somewhat off the base, so rookie first baseman Darryl Collins (who had just entered the game) made a reaching tag.
With that, Bazuin, who arrived late at the base, got off balance and fell hard.
Out of precaution, he left the game, but he has bruised some ribs.
Berry van Driel closed the game for Neptunus in the ninth inning.
He gave up a 2-out single to Rodney Daal, who tonight returned as catcher again for UVV after recovering from an injury.
Daal moved when next batter Julian Rip also singled, but the game ended with a comeback-grounder.
